thats pretty hectic, hopefully they get quality usa made zippo lighters!

If I was a local manufacture/retailer I would host events.

Nights in the shaping bay followed by BBQ beers, give the customer insight into how a quality board is made.
Have a customer and team surf catch up followed by a BBQ and beers.
Movie nights with BBQ and beers
Hold competitions where the customer goes in a draw to win product.

Just an observation but I do feel the American shapers have more information accessible about their boards which for someone who doesn't live in a surf centric area the more info you can cobble together the better

Fair point. But it can be just speil.
Aussies mostly dont like to talk themselves up- except for mac. They rather their wares do the talking.

Yeah but it doesn't have to be spiel. And in SA you are lucky to see anything other than a 6'0 thruster so all you have to go on is info and putting a post up of a board on Insta doesn't do the full story of the board any favours.

Again just my observations. When I'm looking to buy a board I am just hunting for info.

You make a 6 ft thruster sound like a bad thing

Saw a pair of fcs tabbed twin fins on Ebay that looked just like the Futures En fins I've been using in my DVS rocket fish. They had sold out so seller directed me to the Sanctum website. Some very cool fins on there. Especially the flex twins with futures base.
Any how looked at the boards and they have 11'2" and 12' gliders for $950. Interesting as a flat spell knee paddler training board even.

Not easy to look before I buy since I'm in Qld and Sanctum is in Sydney. Took a leap of faith and ordered a set of the FCS tabbed twins. Will let ya'll know what I think of them once they turn up.
Had a horror surf on my trusty DVS rocket fish the other afternoon while the swell was still good.
Drove over the hill and stopped in at the surfboard whorehouse to have a look at their Tajen model in its most voluminous offering...7'.
The boards a straight copy of a Hypto Krypto from Hayden shapes. No great worry...Chinese copy of a Thai made board (going off the majority of Hyptos sold would come out of the GSI Thai factory rather than the Aussie factory).
There are some less than subtle differences. Even though I've liked the outline of the Hypto and watched the way it favoured a forward stance the distribution of foam in my favoured length and the fullness of the rails gave me pause on buying one. Wouldn't be suprised if others who are heavier/older and prefer a bit more length in their boards felt the same way about the longer Hyptos.
Also its sheer popularity turned me off it a little to be honest.
Anyway I had noticed that the Tajen had less foam for the equal length Hypto and the foil was also more refined with more width and less thickness than the Hypto. Feeling one up it felt good under the arm and was pretty light. Apparently they have a full carbon fibre wrap and are very durable.
Then there's the price. $449. Bugger it, I'm going to give one a run. Must say I've ridden it as a quad (Outerisland fibreglass switchblade quad set) at my local point and rode some decent sized waves to be shown a very nice paddling, speedy and predictable board.
High lines very well and handles a steeper drop. Drives around sections with rock solid ease. Rode it again at my local beachbreak in sucky, low tide 3'ers and it went very well.
It has a similar amount of foam to many 7' midlength boards but still rides like a shorty (ie more reactive). I'd happily ride this board in 6' plus waves but on Thursday the waves had dropped right back and I rode it in 2' waves and still had fun. Can't fault it so far. Having ridden so many different boards over the years I can normally figure if the board will stay or go within 1-2 surfs.
I'm ready to buy a 6'6" as a fun beachbreak board as well I like the board and it suits my forward stance (read front foot surfer) so well.

I have 2 Tajens. Bought a 7'er and was so impressed with it running it with a set of Moonraker quads from Outer islands that I bought a 6'6" which I run a set of Soar Webber flex twins in.
Made in China they may be but I love them. The template is obviously a copy of a Hypto kyrpto but they have made them wider and thinner to the same sizes in the Hypto. I've never bought a Hypto because in the amount of foam I like to have under me they look too thick and the rails are fat. The Chinese noodle box has an Eps core with full carbon fibre laminate with white paint over the body to minimise heat with the rails left unpainted carbon.
Too appease the zealots I took a brand new 8' Christenson flat tracker 2.0 that I bought Wednesday from Desa at Peregian, which was hand shaped by Christenson, not a ghost shaper, on his last visit to Australia for its maiden voyage at Granite this morning.





Lately been using the Sanctum twins with a trailer I made by cutting down an M7 glass flex fin into a Stretch rear quad trailer template (but smaller). The 6'6" I run as a straight twin with the Webbers. Crazy loose but carvey.

My experience with them is they would immediately swap it out for a brand new board. Their customer service has been awesome for me.

So embarrassing but eminently solvable.

But I understand I am wasting my breath. They aren't Australian manufacturers, although a locally owned company, so they are the devil incarnate.

Or the owner could just buy two more and still have paid less than a McTavish...
