I was talking to my shaper mate the other day, and he said he had a go at that Dolphin concept about 5 years ago.

Dolphin Fin Concept - placing a single fin in the centre of the board... say 2-3 foot forward of the normal fin position, while still running your normal fin set-up in the rear....

He had been talking to some yachting buddies etc.... and the concept was basically about giving a pivot point up forward to turn on. The brief consensus was that he "didn't notice any difference at all, but it was a smallish fin up forward, roughly todays FCS-GX size fin".

When it came time to sell the board, the buyer was freaking out... what's that thing doing there (the fin).... It was a glass on fin, so he just cut the fin off, and sanded it all smooth.

Jeepers, don't tell me The Longboard Room is getting like The SUP Room with red thumbs!

We've had NW & West winds all day here, and Winki & other Reefs were a little bit fun. Really fun waves. Not 10/10 or anything, but just good clean fun!

Met a Canadian guy in the carpark. He had always wanted to surf Bells & Winki. He came into Aus today, went straight to Melbourne to buy a car (bought a Subaru 1990'ish squarish Wagon), and came straight down to Winki & Bells. He has 1 wetsuit, a 5/4/3 !! I flung him a card of mine with my address and phone number, and I'm offering him my old Rip Curl Elasto 3/2 (Version1 from circa 1999). I like his style... 1 thing on his mind... surf! He's planning on staying around Torquay for the entire Summer.

This middle fin idea may have some merit, especially in a place like Bells where you've got a lot of potential to get a big fast face where a good arching turn from the middle you be the ducks guts.

I reckon you'd be buggered if you still had it on in a small wave and you tried to do quick pivot turns from the tail with a bit of a stall, it could just drag.

If you were serious about it, I guess you could throw a 6" fin box in the middle and only use it on the big days. Just make up an insert for when you're not using it.

Wind blown as you guys said last night but there was a few good size rollers which formed nicely around the corner into the beach.
