Just wondering what you guys think ,
Sure does time for you to move to OZ
You bet. Most memorable surfs, where I have been at my best (pretty average), have been on perfect waves on perfect days. YEW!!!
Its got to have an impact, in my opinion.
I am an average surfer at the best of times, but on days that you luck a good break being uncrowded and doing its thing i seem to operate at a higher level.
Part of this could be that you are more relaxed and dont have to hurry, but I think a quality wave gives you the ability to concentrate more on your style rather than concentrating on just keepibng the board moving. Particularly if you are not someone who surfs several times a week.
Good question Cobra.![]()

Without a shadow of a doubt - more ride time = improvements
Better surf breaks = more ride time - you do the math ![]()
at ET last comment..thats what I'm here for![]()

sandsy i thought about it and its a hard one for me.
i don't get perfect conditions and when i do i always surf better.
in good conditions i find the clean lines flat face so easy to surf
in poor conditions your constantly working the board + concentrating so much more
to get the most out of the wave.
so then are the poor conditions better for your surfing.

sorry ted i can't see that its that simple.
I am not surprised you are struggling ![]()

I have just been away spent 10 days surfing a very very long left-hander of extremely high quality. On some waves I was doing 7, 8, 9 top turns - catch 15 to 20 waves a session and 2 to 3 sessions a day. I did so many backhand top turns and variations that it was impossible not to have improved. I also spent more time pulling in than I do in 6mths of surfing here - maybe 12mths! Huge improvements in all aspects of my surfing. I do not know how many times over the course of the trip I heard someone say "if only we surfed waves like this every day....." I watched my two buddies surfing improve dramatically over the course of the trip - was great to see.
How can you not improve surfing these waves
compared to Bondi the other day ![]()

i was just haven a coffee with a mate talking about a local bloke up here, just won the QLD 666 title down at the gold coast, against blokes in their own backyard.
they get more surf time in better conditions, so it just got me thinking on this question.
sorry.. and congrats to Pat Eastwood nice win mate.
Ok ted turn things about, take some (note some) surfers from the Pass, take them out of that soft perfect wave and put them insome of the conditions
we surf in. i have seen it before they struggle big time.
so ted has that perfect break improved their surfing.
ted its a question not an attack. so settle petal
I hear what you are saying - no attack from me !
I just mean that if you are having more ride time then you get to sort a few things out so that when you are back surfing crap waves you can make the most of it - so I believe that you can progress a lot faster than if you just surf crap waves all the time.
I reckon you need both..
Shizz waves make you a good surfer, you have to find speed, place turns etc.
Makes you have a better technique for the good days... You usually catch a ****load of waves 2 cause less people out..
And
IMO Easier to surf good in good waves and yes surfing good waves makes you better but so do **** waves so just farkin go surfing..
And weiry the pass doesn't count, most people there think the next big break through In surfing is getting as much volume as you can carry and going across with out doing a farkin thing...
Disclaimer, there are some rippers up that way...![]()

good points SP
i know what your saying about few peeps at the pass, my point was based at the extreme.![]()
^^^
I'll use this analogy...
Do you reckon you'd be a better root after pumping a few porn stars??![]()
But i get your point, surfing perfect lined up waves probably makes you a good surfer but at a certain point a lack of variety will be the downfall.
Look at slater, grew up in Florida but once exposed to good waves got even better..
In the end it is all technique. good waves probably let you have more time to work on it but at the same time you don't need a great tech cause the waves are helping.
In **** surf it is about tech, positioning and wave selection.
Snake man, I surf the best waves on the Goldie and surf like ****,ASEA told me to say that![]()
i just wish Asea was back to stop these interruptions of a very enthralling post.![]()
SP,
Define what a 'better root' is.
I bet a male definition differs from a female definition. Remember when you were 18 and use to just pump away on top and thought you were a good root and of course she was enjoying it - not. ![]()
Not only does your surfing improve you but also get to feel how your board performs. The first time I got my Fireball (no, I’m not on the McT payroll) in quality down south waves I was amazed how quick it went....and I’m a Kook! Good time to swap boards with the mates and mix it up too.

Like a buddy of mine used to say when we were younger.
" I may not have the biggest d**k in the whole world but I've got an ass like a sewing machine"
i know i spend as much time as i can surfing perfect peelers at noosa ... very easy wave, great break ... and i suck at surfing ![]()
i would have no hope in indo .... but then again noosa is just down the street ![]()
