It's all been happening the past 48 hours in the States.

Mavericks has been called ON for 8am Friday and will be telecast live at;

www.mavericksinvitational.com/

Reports from Hawaii today are calling today the biggest swell event in over 20 years on the North Shore.

Pipeline is forecast to be the below tmrw;

.....and the below video was shot on 19th at a solid size however today was apparently fairly epic....love this video just quietly !

great footage. the surfers seem to have the wave and their boards sussed out these days although that was very clean surf

Maybe it's that over the top angle but I thought that looked surfable - they were paddling rather than being ski'ied in and it was clean top to bottom with a channel either side - thinking from that footage I'd have had a crack BUT I'm sure if I were confronted with it in the flesh I'd have piked.

As for Mavericks and 40 foot Pipeline......that's just ridiculous.

Has anyone watched the interview Dave Kalama did last week with Jamie Mitchell after last weeks Belharra episode ? Really worth a listen.

it definitely looks cleaner and more friendly than most of the footage you see there - where there is lots of chop on the face from the wind. But then you see the white water exploding and I just thank god I am no where near there

Great interview SA thanks for posting.

Jamie Mitchell has really established himself with Grant 'Twiggy' Baker as one of the main big wave players after being world renowned for years for his prone feats.

In the past week and a bit he's flown from Paris to LAX, to Maui, to LAX and back to Maui.... note he's not in today's Mav's Comp though preferring to stay surfing Jaws I guess where he is now.

It's been interesting to follow his movements on social media.

Hectic....

I note Kelly Slater is an 'alternate' - that made me laugh.

Further note Jamie Mitchell now at Maui Airport (with Kai Lenny) heading back to cold water Cali so he may get a late guernsey as he was also on stand-by ?

I find it ridiculous that he'd not be the first 'invited'......it's like not inviting someone to their own birthday party.

IMHO - he's the surfer of all surfers no question in any surf, any swell, any place.

Point Break 2 filmed yesterday at Jaws.

(I believe it was Laird that was filmed for the take).

Hectic. How's the board in the background going over the falls.

The clip is an edit of a 2 wave hold down. Healey can hold his breath for 4 mins and after such an experience his training clearly kept him alive. His demeanour at the end is amazing after such an experience.

There's also a clip of Dorian. GoPro was on the deck of his board. They played it during the final but it's not online yet.

That fella must have got destroyed!

What an amazing clip. Great post Dr. Funk. I could not get over how calm he was as the wave approached him and he knew he as going to cop it. He just embraced it, kept paddling strong not aggressive and just those big breaths. Insane. If that had been me you would have seen me in hysterics, panicking and most probably crying

A really interesting read regarding Greg Long's near death experience.

Nice find......

Now **** that..I like in the vid how they keep.cool enough to put the board horizontal to the wave to lessen the chance off it being snapped.....FREAKS

I want to know how they manage to get any kind of penetration with that much floatation on ? You would think that they wouldn't be able to submerge more that a foot or so
