Can they work? Not much banks at my local and the reefs are just too packed for my liking of a stress relieving surf. I find I nose dive ALOT with my 9ft'er and unfortunately, am hedging my bets for the day I snap the log! Regardless, starting to love longboarding again. My aggression/ 'need to catch every wave' mentality seems to drift away on the log and all that is left is what surfing really is: having fun and relaxing
Can now see where the cool and chilled demeanor of the Beer Garden comes from!
Any you guys know how to prevent this? Inspiration came from an Indo local surfing double overhead peelers with grace... Unfortunately I shall never be able to replicate that! ![]()
Newguy logs are best suited to pointbreaks and softer beach breaks.
They can be a handful in sucky beach breaks.
Keep it clean fellas ![]()

Logs and beachies generally do not work well together unless its high tide and super full or has really nice long banks......you can definitely make them work but you will find other boards are much better suited to the chore. With a log you will get lots of ideal days to surf it at the beach but other boards will have a lot more ideal days for ya in my experience.....if you have room in the quiver for one and unlimited cash resources then definitely have one but if not I would suggest you get some think else
Logs love reefs and points - especially when its clean and smallish!!!!
So have you done your indo trip now Newguy? If so how did you get on and please post some pics of your adventure.
What I love about beachies is how different hey can be from one week to the next. Certainly my local which can have spitting barrels after a storm and then fatter mellow criusers a few days later. Unfortunately it can have plenty of knee high closeouts but that's another story.
So throughout the year I get to use my whole quiver from logs to mals, retro singles, fish and all sorts of other weird and wonderful things.
In terms of nose diving I think it's more technique than board. If you take advantage of the bigger boards size, sit further out, paddle harder and angle the takeoff you can usually make most drops. Occasionally the banks are such that it really sucks up late and you can be better off on a shorter board with more rocker.
i hate logs...full stop. they have no purpose except to hang on the wall.
i do not see the point of owning a log when there are some many other longboards that can do what a log can, plus plenty more. i hate how heavy they are...geez i just farking hate them![]()
You lads crack me up. Looks like I'll be hitting more reefs then. The pro's-seemingly more chilled out crowd about although just as packed. Any tips on cross stepping Chrispy? ![]()
Will get some photoes up Ted once I find the camera!
