i guess i have too much time and too much wood left overs. i decided to make wood gladiator hybreed fin. yesterday i cut the wood and glued it together. today i cut the shate and send it. currently it is 1cm thick.









now i have to sand it to wing shape... i found this pic how to shape it








as i do not want to glass it, is there any good way to protect it from water? just thin layer of epoxy maybe? some other waterprooh polish? any thoughts?

first rough sanding is done... didnt make the shaping tools. now its time for fine sanding and corrections. any toughts about protection?

Some wooden boat builders/restorers swear by using a CPES (clear penetrating epoxy solution) and then multiple varnish layers over the top. Good enough for Riva's and the like it should do your fin nicely!

I made some less good looking Wooden Weed fins That I designed myself and worked suprisingly well.
The first 2 fins I just Varnished but those fins werent stiff enough and twisted and flexed allover the place.
As soon as I started to glass them and even more when I addded carbon at the base eveything became a lot stiffer and working better.An carbon base doesnt look as cool as the full wood fin, but I can really recc that.
I have only a pic of my very first fin, but the later ones had a lot less surface but worked pretty well and above all building them is good fun. :)
