<div>SUP is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. SUP surfing is one of many stand up paddle boarding disciplines; others are flat water marathon, flat water sprint, technical racing, downwinding and SUP yoga. Stand Up Paddling has its roots in Hawaiian surf tradition. This tradition was revived recently by modern big wave surfers, notably Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama and Brian Keaulana as an effective cross training tool

<div>Status:

<div>A new event on the Surfing WA events calendar and the marquee event of the Geraldton Festival of Surfing. This event will take place in the heart of Geraldton and offer both racing and surfing divisions. The event will for the first time combine all disciplines of SUP (surf, sprint & marathon racing)

<div class="s17">• Jake Jakovich (Margaret River) – Current State Champion SUP surfing and genuine threat to Stand Up World Tour surfers. Brother of Rick.

<div class="s17">• Scotty McKercher (Margaret River) – ex Windsurfing World Champion and current SUP Board Designer for Starboard International – one of the largest global SUP brands

<div class="s17">• Monica de Araujo (Perth) – Current Women’s State Champion SUP surfing

<div>Competition days:

<div>3 days of action – one day of surfing, one day for sprint racing, one day marathon. Dependent on weather conditions will determine what occurs and when.

<div>Event date range:

<div>The event date range is set slightly longer than required to take into account some hours off due to less than ideal weather conditions. However, competition is likely to take place on all days.

<div>Community Engagement:

<div>The flat and sheltered waters off Town Beach provide the perfect setting to provide ‘have a go at SUP’ or a community / teams racing event.

<div>SUP surfing competitions only started in WA 6 years agoThis is the first SUP surfing event to be held in Geradlton
