No short answer here from me
This is a topic that I have been passionate about for years..... but never had
the right board to recommend.
IMO, this has been an industry oversight for years
Greenroom hits on a lot of great points... you don't need a big board to have fun!
I have always flat-watered my surf SUPs ... I frequently paddled 10k on my 8'10 Allwave or my 9'5 Mana's
Lots of women I know race, and love it.......
but..... I know a lot
more, that just want something manageable. Period.
They don't want to struggle
loading and unloading. They don't care about going fast.
They just want something LIGHT, that they can easily throw on,
or in the car by themselves.... without drama....
They want a board that is stable, easy to paddle and maybe bring the pup or kids along.
Casual paddling ... just a nice morning jaunt with friends or nature.
It would be great to have something the kids can manage as well.
I have seen
many frustrated women that got sold a 12'6 raceboard..... trying to get it on the roof alone in a breeze.
Or a bargain brand all-arounder that weighs in at 15kg
The board ends up in the rafters of the garage, gathering dust.
So.... I was
very stoked when I got my hands on a Sunova 9'5 SURF in the ECO build
It is THE board I have been talking about for years!!!!!
Affordable, LIGHT, beautiful, stable, great handle, wide enough for a total novice, or bring the kid or the pup.
The rails and outline are full enough for stability and nice paddling.
Small enough to throw in the back of the SUV... or easily on the roof racks.
And it's only 10.4 kg (23 lbs)
Tino (from Sunova) asked me to pick up a board when I was on the road and hold on to it.
When I took it out of the box, and picked it up, I freaked..... so light... perfect size......
"THIS is the board I have been looking for!"
I have sooooo many women ask about boards, and I have never had
the board, that fit all the criteria.... until now!
I paddled it right away and was impressed..... it paddled nicely, even with a big lug like me on it!.... for women, this board will be a
very solid cruiser!
The light weight makes it very responsive to each stroke, which is a big deal if you are not a 100 kg guy.
I didn't really think about surfing it because it was fairly wide, and a floater.
On a small day last week, I threw on the head cam and said....aahhh jeeze, I better see if it surfs.
The vid is great.... I start laughing on the 1st wave, because the board is so much fun. (video won't upload to youtube... I'll try again)
My 3rd session was in some good waves 3 days ago..... my friend wanted to ride it again, then we swapped after a bit.
I was blown away with how much fun this board is in good waves! .... super easy, turns great, good speed.... it simply has a very nice feel to it.
And it carves a pretty mean turn for a 160 liter floater!!!
The ECO build seems awesome....
the price comes in
well below most brands.....
most importantly, the weight is definitely much less.
I am seriously, a HUGE fan of this board.... it is the
surprise of the winter for me..... I will be surfing it a LOT..... and I have a pile of boards to pick from.
Soooooo stoked to have my friends try this board .....
Paddle, surf or sail.....THIS is a
great board for the ladies..... and me, apparently
Guys.... this is a board worth looking at if you want some float and stability in the surf..... but that's another thread!
Available in XXX tec as well
