Hey folks. just need some advice, my wife and i are looking to buy Sup to share and i was hoping to get some advice on what size to go with.
I'm 87 kilos experienced surfer and she is 50kg (wet) no water experience.
I'm guessing she is not going to need a lot of board and my concern is that what sits her maybe to small for me.
Your thoughts?
Still laughing. ![]()

Mate a 10'6 would suit you both, I just say don't go cheap, go a quality brand Board and paddle Can't go wrong if you re-sell.
You will own two boards within 3 months so don't worry too much about it.
Upgrade to a bigger wife
Or two small ones :-)
Anyways, the board size is only an issue if she practice alone and has to carry it on long distances or put it on the car.
If you can always be there to carry the board, no worries...
Hey Waray - I bought my 1st SUP in Nov14 & because I don't have a surfing background, I landed up going for a longboard style 10'6x32"x150l which I love i.e. it's an extremely versatile board which handles the surf well / it's great for flat water paddling + it's stable for beginner mates to use. My missus saw how much fun she was missing out on & sharing a board was never an option (I'm way to greedy for that + we wanted the optionality of being out on the water together) so we bought an entry level 9'6x30"x140l board which she really likes. I've been using both boards for the past month & because I'm spending the majority of my time in the surf, we've decided to sell the 9'6 board whereby I invest in a 2nd surf oriented 9'2x30x136l board i.e. this means we've got 2 completely different quality boards to chose from depending on the conditions. If I could turn the clocks back, we would bypass buying the 9'6 board although it has been a great board to learn on. I'm the same weight as you & my other half weighs 55kg so possibly with your surfing background, you could go even smaller than 9' however your wife might struggle with the lower volume. Bottom line is that it really depends on what both of you hope to get out of the board & who spends the majority of the time on the board e.g. if it's only flat water paddling, you might want to consider anything >10' so that the board tracks better however if it's going to be primarily used for surfing, then anyhing around the 9'x140l mark should do the trick. Ideally you both need to demo a few boards to get a feel for what works & longer term, 2 boards is the way forward.
Hey guys thanks for taking the time to reply. Pretty much seems all good advice. However missus is not keen on putting on a few pounds or being up graded.
I'm thinking from what I've read is a surf orientated board 9.5ish, so long as the volume is there. And get a good one
What you should do is demo a few boards before you commit. I'm sure the W.A crew could give you some advise on shops that have demo boards you and the wife could try.
Cheers Mark

Naish Mana is my recommendation. Demo'd one the other day and it was a dream. Light and versatile but stable. A 9'6 i believe.

Hey guys thanks for all your advice. .. took the plunge and decided on a board from Indian Ocean SUP's... tested the 9.5 and 8.6 without to much trouble. So decided on the 9.0 x 32.can't wait to get into it.
