The stock fin set as Thruster seems great on shoulder to head high waves here in south shore Oahu but smaller than that and I dont have speed.
Any recos on a good set up for more speed? I realize this board is not itself designed to fly in less than big surf
Running the stock fins in quad doesnt seem to help much if at all

I just use a bigger set of side fins which will give you the drive & a slightly smaller tail fin to loosen it up.... Because of the nice pulled in pin tail I find quads don't work as well as in a wider tail...

anything under shoulder high and the Stungun is not at its best, but I run mine as a quad with a nubster and found it helps a lot in the small stuff.

I've been surfing a Stun Gun for years and this is what I do as well.
They are a great board but they are better at controlling speed (big steep drops) rather than generating it (smaller mushy stuff)
They just don't work that well when it is smaller.

yes that is my observation as well so the hunt is on for a board for the smaller mushier stuff...

what fin sets would you look at?

Theres a lot of love for : Shapers Jackson Close sets and C Drive sets...

I like using fcs 2 longboard fins in the centre of my boards (when the conditions suit) as it's so easy to move and swap them over...

I use quads in my stun gun when its small... under shoulder high. Same front fins as the thruster setup, smaller rear fins . Makes it looser. I swear it also makes it a bit quicker, but maybe im dreaming.

After this weekend i would agree. definitely looser and likely faster at least in some sections...a year ago i did not think this but maybe i am finally learning this board

C Drives if you can find any

For speed, you definitively want the Quobba fins. quobbafins.com/

They are faster than anything I experienced. Basically, the faster you go, the less drag you have compared to other fins. Plus their optimal flex makes them hold by keeping a laminar flow as much as possible.

I only use Quobba now on all the boards I drive at speed: that is all my boards, except the small wave longSUPs and fishes.

C Drives sound like the goods,but at the time in 2015 none seemed to be available .

For my 8,7 SG on smaller days the JC quads (red /yellow) work a treat,huge amount of drive/speed!

For when its big,down the line or for big hollow beachies I have down sized to the Shapers Core lite quads (blue /black),
In comparison obviously smaller,a little bit more upright than the JCs with more flex on the tips.

Quad fin on both my 8'9" Jimmy Lewis WW and 8'5" Carbon WW.
So fast... and still super loose on the cut backs.

seems like JC are no longer available on the shapers website

given i only weigh 70 KG will he Shapers JC be too big for me?
