Hi there,
So, with a birthday imminent, a new Gopro is on the cards. I had one a few years ago when they first came out and loved it until a grain of sand in the seal resulted in absolute rooting of said Gopro.
It seems that time is indeed a healer, and I'm prepared to go again, but geez there's a few to choose from.
Any pointers please?
Just want to put a bit of stuff together without needing all the whistle and bells.

I'm lookin at upgrading to the 5 but I had a good look at the Olympus tough tracker in Singapore last night. Similar price fits all the go pro attachments and waterfroof to 30 m with no case, looks pretty good to me

I have pretty well use everything , the new 5 is incredible but for more than a 100 bucks less the GP4 Silver is still an amazing camera. The new 5 just eats everything nothing comes close to it.

What is wrong with the Session, if you want something cheap and easy? I just want something that isn't going to bankrupt me if I bust it or it gets lost at sea, and is the most foolproof thing to use in difficult (including low light) conditions. I can't use something that has a complex display because I wear contact lenses when in the water which means I can't read small text. So I need something where I can just press one button and off it goes, and that records in a format where I don't need fancy software to play or edit it. I had a GoPro before but I paddle in cold waters, it was hard to keep from fogging, and the buttons on the case started to stick and corrode after a while.

Or, don't go GoPro at all, I have just changed over to the Yi2, which has all Sony components, 4k, LCD Screen built in and seriously has the nicest user interface I have ever used. Oh and the battery life is beyond awesome, 2 hours at 1080. I am just about to get rid of my other GoPro and buy another one of these beasts.

The inbuilt image stabilisation with the new gopro5 makes it a winner. I'll be upgrading from the 4silver to it shortly.

My buddy running with his 5 on his head mount compared his 4 on is worlds better. It's so smoother and easier to watch

I use a tomtom Bandit. It's worth checking out, in built gps, heart rate and has matches a gopro silver with features. It's a little bulkier than most other action cams, but by default is water proof and the mobile app takes allot of the challenge out of video editing. Highly recommend checking it out while your shopping around

Few more points on the 5 . It doesn't need a case so no more fogging . The sound is incredible no more microphone inside a drink bottle sound . The stabilisation is fantastic plus the battery last for ages . It also has a built in full rear screen touch control so simple to use and has voice activation so no more sh!t remotes , it can live stream to your phone straight onto social media. GPS tracking of all your shots.

Image quality has been stepped up again so sharp and crisp but not over saturated like the GP4 and very good low light ability .Plus a more cinematic shot with less fisheye. I'm nothing to do with GoPro. The original session was crap I haven't tried the new one.

It looks like a huge step forward; so many improvements in what were their weak areas.

Just the price , it has come down heaps from the GP Black 4 but I think $539 AUS is still too high should be same price as the GP4 Silver in the low $400's. It also has the new mini USB lead (same as the session) so your old leads won't fit to charge the camera. Not such a big deal for me as I have other cameras that use that lead but still a pain in the butt. All cameras will go this way as it is fastest to transfer files.

If you want to see some good comparisons between the gopro 5 , 4 & 3 check these 2 videos I shot on the weekend. The 5 is mounted down by the steering (port side of boat) of the outboard and the yellow Hydroplane , the 4 is facing backwards in front of the engine & the 3's are facing forward in front of cockpit & by the steering (starboard side of boat) All the sound is used from the 5 , I just dubbed it over the other vision. Spectacular footage. All the mounts were just stick on's that Gopro supply.

No just the camera man the tunnel hull actually does not take his foot the throttle going just trims down.

I am not really too big on having a ton of features. Mostly because I don't have a computer, and don't want to spend a bunch of time with settings. I agonized over which GoPro to buy, and ended up with the Hero 4 Session. I really like it. Super simple to use, easy to set up and so small that i can pretty much take it anywhere. It used to be that you needed the GoPro remote control to take pictures with the Hero 4 Session, but an update awhile back changed that. Now you can change the settings take pics or change the settings back to take video very quickly. I am trying to convince myself that i need the Session 5, but i will probably wait for a bit.

I read from local feedback that the GoPro 5 may not be so great for water sports:
- without a case, a gopro 5 was drowned on first session (sailboarding), water leaked via the usb ports
- the vocal command is unreliable if there is background noise, such as wind. So unusable in sailboarding
- the tactile screen does not work with wet fingers

Does the Yi have an app where your phone can connect and you can upload videos, pictures and make short clips of the best parts of a video? That's something i enjoy about my Hero 4 Session. I don't take a ton of videos, but when i do, it's nice to be able to do something with them.

I recently took this video too.... i think the quality is pretty good, and it doesn't seem to "shakey" for not having image stabilization..... does it?

Bought the black yesterday. No cases or any accessories available for them yet which is a bit of a bummer as the hero 4 cases don't fit. Just be aware you will need to buy new underwater cases that look like around $80 if you plan to scuba like me as well as surf, ikes etc. Not sure if it will fit the Phantom drone either doesent look like it to me.

I finally received my go pro mount. I only have a hero3 but I'm pretty happy with it. Surely the 4 or 5 will dominate it. The mount seems really secure as well.

Actually yea it does. Its effectively the Sony 4k but in a different body, plus all the go pro accessories fit it. I am about to get rid of my all my GoPros and change over completely to the Yi. The user interface is awesome the quality of pic is incredible and the battery life is almost double the GoPro. Still needs a case but I dont really care about that to be honest I think I have only ever had a couple of times that I have had it fog up
