So...have bit the bullet and ordered a 2mm short-arm steamer from NeedEssentials to stay a bit more toasty through winter in SE QLD. May be an odd question, but when I used to prone-surf many many years ago, it was the done thing to wear a rashie under the wettie. Having not squeezed into full-body rubber for 20+ years, is it still something that needs a rashie under it or have wetties improved and no longer need the extra layer to prevent chafing under the arms / around the neck? Bit of a yeast-filled kooky question, I know...

No need for rashies anymore, these wetties are fantastic quality for the price.

What I do however is at the start of the season to rub in some petroleum jelly on the inside of the collar rim. Otherwise I may get some chafing after long sessions.

Try it without any lubricants mate, particularly petroleum based. If any needed try lanolin. I have the need 2mm its been great for vic spring/autumn

just wash them after use right through with a little bit of soap .or shampoo ,thats what stops the rash .

i found it colder with the rashie underneath.it held the water in ..

a good pee warms you up . at the beginning of the surf not just before you get out .

Easier said than done... I grew up surfing Mornington Peninsula in mid winter without a worry but the old bones just can't take it any more!!

Wettie arrived today - damn good service! Ordered Sunday from Vic. and arrived Tuesday 0930am in Brissy. First time putting on a chest-zip suit is a bit of an adventure it must be said, but assume it'll get easier with practice & working out a sequence.

Now if only I can come up with a plausible explanation for my wife having come home and found me neck to ankle in black rubber...

The only trick to know is on removal, to focus on getting the left elbow out, then you can take a breath and continue.

There are actually some videos on youtube showing how it is done.

Have now had the wettie for a couple of months, and have to say I can't fault it. Nothing flash, but keeps me warm and seems to be well-made. Definitely loosened up a little after a couple of wears and entry / exit is now a lot easier than when brand new. The chest zip (vs a back zip which was my only previous wetsuit style) is a great innovation (I'm a bit behind the curve on that...) and seems to reduce 'flushing'. Super happy with it overall and I'm glad I didn't spend $500. Great bit of kit at a great price

have had a couple of wetsuits from these guys, like you say nothing super flashy, yeah my f-bomb is nice but for the price and the quality definitely can't beat need, yeah it's can be a little funny trying to get out of your wetsuit the first couple of times until it stretches
