As a matter of interest, this is what I got from my RipCurl watch. You can see a couple of waves that ended up on the rocks... (And you can see that I walked my board down there - I couldn't be bothered paddling - I had surfed the previous three days and my legs were like rubber.)
Wow... what software do you use to get that sort of track presentation? Can it read in a standard GPX file or similar? Looks cool...
It is all part of the RipCurl searchGPS watch. A gross overindulgence at A$500, but it tracks all your movements and determines when you are catching a wave. Its estimate of wave speed is pretty good - there are times when I have caught one late and I feel like I am flying but the watch will say I was just mooching along - I think you need to be traveling fast for quite a few seconds for it to record the speed properly.
You access the information via their web site, or via your phone/tablet via their app. Here you can see some of the other info you get. And you can add notes on the session, and it records the tide/wind/swell (but often gets that wrong).
