Get onto the SICMauiCustom site (or the FB equivalent). They've just posted some new weed fins for the 17' Bullet.
And there's no truth to the rumuors that I'm becoming a SIC junkie...

How many did you buy??
The weed fin post seems to be a FaceBook thingy - you'll need to get with the Program.
Then you can get Warwicks Hard Core 6am posts too!
Nice bumps at HMB this morning on the 12 6 Bullet btw
Yeah, weed is a huge problem for ruddered boards. They don't have seaweed in Hawaii so the guys there haven't really given it much thought, I don't think. Here in the UK there are large floating weed balls that can stop you dead when your rudder hits them and cause a dangerous face-plant in your board, which is not great if you are well out to sea. It can rip your rudder out as well, so it's a serious safety issue.
The little rubber weed deflectors that surfskis use that are like mini fins that you stick on in front of the rudder actually work surprisingly well, and are a very cheap solution. I'm sure it's not as good as a custom SIC fin, but it will be a much cheaper option. Pretty much any shape rudder will catch weed if it is being used (ie. is off-centre) at the time it meets the weed so it's best to minimise rudder use in weedy areas. We have some very string-like weed in the UK that gets caught in the small gap between the rudder and the board and can be very difficult to remove, and causes the steering to stop working.
Sometimes I wonder whether the Hawaii-based designers should travel a bit more and experience the issues downwinding that we in other countries face. Mark Raaphorst is from the Netherlands though so you'd have thought he'd have had to have thought about weed issues, so I'd be interested to learn what his solution is, because frankly, if you live in a weedy area, it can pretty much be a deal-breaker as far as rudder use goes.
On the old Starby Point I cut the top of an old windsurfing fin and glued it in front of the rudder
Seemed to work

All set for Points Radman, plus I remember what you paid for it 4 years ago
I put a finbox in mine and use a W/Surf weed fin
However if someone is lookiing for to get into it this year, this is a Carbon downwinder, you could do a lot worse
Designed by Mark Raaphorst, the SIC man. This board has the SIC pedigree.
The name the Point, came from the intended use as a point to point downwind board.

Well, I'd buy it. But unfortunately I live in the UK. I was offered one for a pittance several years ago and really regret not buying it.
