Yes I use the Leashlock too. Easy to put on and off, no stepping on the rope.

Leashlok belt is awesome. I use a Balin half coil leash with it.
No worries!

Yeah i have been using them for ages now and they work well and if you ever stretch the coil out for some reason you will be able to soon just buy the coil part making it super cheap to replace. For $50 it's pretty much half the price of some others on the market and so far has worked fine!

I use that waist belt but have taken to making my own leashes by threading bungee into bunched braided line with a whipped brummel lock splice at each end.

About a 1 tonne breaking strain, a shed load lighter than your usual off-the-shelf coiled rubber leash and about $10 NZD materials cost (plus a small ss shackle).

Because it's braided line probably less prone to failure than a nick-prone rubber leash too.

The trick is to get light bungee cord and the right ratio of braid to bungee based on your standing position relative to the connection point on your board.

Good for racing/flat water. Not enough give for surfing!

So the quick release is by ripping off the velcro?

Yes, we found that's all you really need and was all I ever used even when racing with them.

Hey Hawaiiheke, could you please give a little more detail on the 'bunched braided line' maybe a photo or a link. Always looking for good leash options for my surfski. Mahalo!

Sure. Insert a length of bungee into the centre of the braid at a length shorter than the braid and it "bunches". As the bungee stretches the braid extends out to its full length.

See here for vid on the splicing:

Mate good pickup.Just ordered mine. Sold out at the minute so delivery I assume would be in Feb some time.

I think for guys like me - 80kg - who are light these are a must. I have had a cheap waist leash for some years
now which has saved my knees and ankles from getting twisted around when getting tumbled.Cheers.Ozzie.

One good word for the design work of DJ on the Balin Monster Coil leash.
I just purchased a second one. I use them with a belt and cannot be happier. All the small details that make you forget about the leash and that are super useful and show that the person that made the suggestions know what he is talking about and what is useful.

Yep, I agree. The Balin Monster is the best coiled leash for SUP, and goes well with a waist belt.
