Hi, I am looking to purchase a second hand SUP. Are surface/paint chips or scratches anything to worry about? i am not too concerned about the look, more worried about whether the chips/scratches could lead to anything more serious.

Thanks

Chip/scratches are normal.

Cracks are serious though, they do not result in normal paddle hits, and can run deep or not. Check then with soapy water on them and leaving the board 2-3mn in the sun.

Inspect around the fin boxes, and especially the handle: board flat in the sun, fill the handle with soapy water.
