Hi all. I am a little confused.....my elbow hurts on the inside....I was told to ice, take anti-inflamatories, rest it, but not sure if it is enough. I think I have had the paddle too long....any more advice?

Google tennis elbow. Do your symptoms match?

me too have same pain on one of my elbows....attempting to paddle more with arms straight. I'm blaming it partly on old age and partly on overuse at work (horticultural pruning and stuff)

Relax your hands would be a start, if it really bothers you find someone who does lessons but make sure you find someone who will show you how to help with this kind of thing.
if you want to be pointed in the right direction for who might be best to help you in you area then just let me know where you are and I'll point you to someone in your area who should be able to help.

Yup, golfers elbow is the inside one. Same process though. Overall issue will be hand position on paddle so invest in someone who can coach videoing you paddling to check that out. In the mean time antinflamms, modify your load, so reduce the kilometres or time on the water. Massage / release through forearm muscles. Don't stretch them. And look up how to do isometric wrist flexion exercises.

Maybe try this. Worked for me. I also benefited from going to a softer paddle shaft.

Thanks for that. I have chronic tennis elbow from windsurfing and SUP, been down the cortisone/steroid thing. Will see how it goes.

cortisone injections mask the pain don't treat the cause,Ive had them for shoulder issues and 3 months later pain is back, exercising the adjacent muscles was the answer for recovery

cortisone is also not great for tendons, sadly. www.sciencedirect.com/journal/seminars-in-arthritis-and-rheumatism(13)00173-X/abstract?cc=y=(copy and paste link)

Sorry to hear of your pain. Regarding the anti inflamms, I've recently had my third arthroscope on my right knee due to lateral and medial meniscus cartilage tears and my left was starting to give me some grief as well. My Dr suggested taking Lyprinol www.lyprinol.com/ and I can't believe the difference it has made, all natural too, but not cheap.

Get yourself checked out by a physio if you haven't already.

I had a bout of it earlier in the year, took about 8 weeks to resolve - ultrasound and deep tissue massage from the physio plus a course of anti-inflamms to start with, then wore one of those old-tennis-man brace things for a few weeks, and a program of remedial/maintenance stretching. I reckon once the initial inflammation died down it was the stretching that did the most good (and continues to).

That`s "golfers elbow" - pain on the inside of the elbows. I had this same thing about two years ago after very long session - paddled too hard for too long.
Didn`t notice it till next day and it was very annoying. It took a good 12 mths to get back to normal.

I found stretching was good for it. Hold your arm out in front of you "palm up" and with your other hand pull back on your finger towards yourself ( not too hard)
This sort of injury is slow to heal completely unfortunately. Give it a rest for a few weeks if you can, but if you are desperate (like I was) and do go out, just go easy and with shorter sessions.

It will get better eventually.

Inside of elbow is golfer's elbow and hard to heal if chronic pain. I've had it for 18 mths and had two ultrasound guided cortisone injections that gave relief for 6wks & 10wks before pain returned. I recently tried dry needling from Osteo then long period of rest and stretching and seems to have made a big improvement so hopefully on right track. It just seems to be a nagging frustrating injury to get rid of quickly.
