Still quite new to sup, today came off and I've noticed this small chip in the nose of my board whilst cleaning. Not sure if anything to worry about or not.







I've tapped up my paddle but now thinking might be time to rail tape the board.

Any advice welcomed.

The stress lines above the paint chip worries me. Try to create a basin with tape(*), fill with soapy water and let the board in the sun for 2 minutes.

If bubbles appear, it is time for a proper repair. If not, it is waterproof, then OK. You can wait to do a proper repair.

Thanks colas, I'll give it a try and see if it bubbles. Either way, probably better to get it repaired yeah (don't put it back on the water with that chip)?

Would it be quite an easy repair job? Any idea of what something like this would cost to fix?

If it is waterproof, you can wait for other dings to (have) make a proper repair in one go.

If it is not, you can just apply a temporary repair that would be waterproof and easy to remove for a proper repair later on: Solarez (or other UV repair kits), resin + fiberglass on top of it without trying to sand it flush (which is the hard part), epoxy paste, ... . Anything hard will be easy to sand away for the proper repair (e.g. to resell the board), just avoid epoxy glues that may stay gooey. Some people use tape but I dont trust it.

The trick is to sand lightly all the parts the resin will touch (delimit with masking tape), and let it cure under pressure (wrapped tight under a PVC tape, epoxy wont stick to it). When people say that their quick repair peeled out, it is because they did not sand or apply pressure.

It is an simple repair job for a pro, especially since it can be painted white for an invisible repair easily (as opposed to a ding in the wood part), but it do not know how much it will cost locally. The "pro" expertise is needed to have a repair flush with the existing glass, but you can make an ugly but waterproof repair yourself easily.
