Having a few days in Noosa and the waves have been pretty bloody good even with a reducing swell. As you would expect when it's good at Noosa every man and woman is in the water. Short boards, long boards, SUP's 7ft-14ft, Foils, surf ski's, clubby boards, all catching waves and not one person getting agro or complaining about someone catching waves and you should not be here, none of it.
Many times you read posts about this and that being bad, or prone vs SUP vs Foil Etc etc, maybe we should all just chill and be like Noosa and accept everyone and just have fun catching waves, I know I am!!????

Love it. Some spots are just more welcoming, democratic with the idea being share the stoke, not competition.

Hey Macaha, I can understand sup being dangerous at the start and yes some people will hog waves no mater what they ride.
And one beach when I've gone back to surfboard I've experienced sup riders trying to catch the set wave I've been waiting at take off spot, so understand as not all suppers have a wave background and understand respect.
As a sup wave rider I've paddled to reef break with group of surfers already there and heard comment and just went to ride waves with big smile - peace out

It's a mix bag out there in the line up and you never know what you gonna get, sometimes grumpy or happy or too much talking blah blah or I'm just too good or I'm a kook so best to get out of the way

I surf mostly locally ( Arrawarra headland, Mullaway,Mullawarra and Woolgoolga ) and never get any bad vibes --
unless they are tourists who are 1) on too small board for their weight and fitness 2) inevitably sitting inside the take off zone in the road 3) sitting so far out on the shoulder that it is flat.
These people are the ones who complain about " you f""king SUP riders take all the waves " -- EVEN if there was no one in else in the water they still would not get any waves, and probably still not enjoy themselves!
Surfing is really enjoyable - if it isnt enjoyable for you - do something else.

Went out again this morning again lots out same mix and same good attitude, even has a long boarder encourage me to paddle hard on a good wave and it was a great wave! Respect is a two way street and some times a local attitude is the exact opposite and you reap what you sow.
It was small today but there were smiles every where and all skill levels, I was a knee boarder many years ago so I understand the rules. But everyone gets caught sometimes and mistakes happen and those guys 10 years ago are either much better now or given it up so it's all good!

Stoked you had a good time in my old stomping grounds..... awesome waves and town. Enjoy!

That looks like a right hand break ? if so the short boarder had right of way there.

What about the "old" long boarders on their 10 footers who sit right out the back and paddle forever to may or may not catch the wave and everyone sits back thinking they will get the wave, until too many beauties roll on by with no one on them. But hey they've been surfing for 50 'ken years and still have sharing issues. BUT the majority are cool. ps the first mentioned long boarders do not like being called a grumpy old man - beats me why

Many 'try to' ride 12ft longboards (poorly), without legropes and then complain saying "sups should be banned cos they are dangerous"...

mac that's hysterical. i remember one of your favourite spots in the 80s the pass, when long boarders and mini mal
riders constantly getting the stink eye now short boarders don't bother.

lets get this right SUPs are not welcome at your local but 12' and 11foot longboards ocean liners are.
i don't think its SUPs,,,i think its attitudes.

It doesn't matter how many waves he has had before you he still has right off way if he is on the inside , You need to position yourself better, once he had caught a wave you should have paddle to the inside position, to give yourself right of way, if he paddles back out and tries to paddle back to the inside position (Snake You) DONT let him, paddle away so he remains on the outside, once you have caught a wave let him have the inside again, just keep repeating the process and he'll get the message. And if he doesn't everyone will see he's being a dick...Peace Out

A guy had a crack at me at my local beach of 5 years a few weeks back. I hadn't even caught a wave yet and I was a surfer first so I understand etiquette and respect.
I think he must've had a bad accident with a kook supper before as he paddled over and started yelling about how my sup only belongs on a lake, to get out of the water and how our bloody 10ft long sups with 10ft leashes would kill someone.

i pointed out that my sup was only 8ft, on a 7ft leash and was much shorter than the guy on the longboard next to him so why not give him a go as well.. I also said it was my local of many years of which I had been sipping nearly every weekend for 2years. His reply- 'oh well I've never seen you here'.

some people are just assholes, while other days people have cheered me on to waves at the same break and I've cheered them on return and a great time has been had by all.

Shame about the whole surfboard vs sup hate.
I also get frustrated when you try to be good and let set by set go by for shortboarders to have their turn (knowing that you could've caught them) and then watch them just let it roll on and either not try for it or mess it up

I understand what you mean as I've been surfing for 50 years now and see the bodyboard mess up as well as the longboard come back. So to write shortly about the surfing etiquette which doesn't really exist or if it can exist, it's between few friends sharing the same waves. I'm gonna use a longboard SUP and will paddle and enter the wave from far outside the stinky eyes of the peak.
