I just took delivery of my new 10 footer from DEEP oceanboards on the weekend. I've been riding for the last year or so something a little bigger in a DEEP 10.1x28.5x3 7/8 @127L and loving it on the small days and the odd day in some pumping point waves. I bit the bullet and took a heap of board out of it down to this 10.1x25.5x3 5/8 @ 102L. I've had a couple of paddles in tiny stuff waiting for some swell, goes good in the little stuff too. I don't really want to wax it or cover it in a full deck pad and hide all that colour, I am looking for a soft, transparent deck grip - any help/advice out there? I have looked at RSPro but it looks pretty thin and hard (maybe not grippy when you need it?) and also nowacs product, can anyone give me some advice on a good transparent soft deck grip?

Nice board! Performance longboard surfboard rather than a SUP with those dimensions.
You could look at using Monster Paint which is a spray on clear texture grip. It works well and doesn't dull the paint job if you use it sparingly. It is grippy so if you sit on the board it might chaff your inner thighs - just saying. I use it on the nose of my boards to get forward past the deck pad.

I don't blame you... covering it up would be a bummer.

I covered the nose of my board with the RSP Hexa pads.... at 1st I had doubts, but I have never slipped when running around on it.
When installed, you can't see it, unless you turn it into the light just so.

For a board that sweet... I'd blow the dough on the RSP Hex before I did anything else to it... worth the chance.

Here's a pic showing some detail of my installation of RSP Hexa.... I installed mine at the beach... in a hurry, hence the tiny air bubbles.

+1 for Hexa traction..looks great easy to put on with a little care and doesn't effect look of board

How do you find the stability going from 28.5 down to 25.5?

I'm about to order a new one around 25 to 26 wide and I'm wondering how much tippier it will be compared to the 28.5 that I currently have.

It is a fair bit tippier and something I will grow into, I did also get it 1/4" thinner that impacts the stability too. It is fine in the flat water and small glassy conditions. I'm yet to try it in choppy conditions with some reasonable waves. I expect to spend some time in the water at the beginning but will be fine. I also ride an 8.0x28x4 Deep and it was the same at the start until I found my feet after a few sessions. They are great once SUP surfing on the wave and won't take many sessions to sort out. Everyone has to find there own balance between stability and performance, I'm keen to push it a bit to improve my SUP surfing and fitness from working harder growing into boards. Good luck.....

Was going to have to pay the $$ for the lighter higher end factory boards but as I'm im close to Burleigh could get one made.

I'Ve had the hex on my board for several months now and except for being a tad slippery when wearing booties, they're fine.

I hate to suggest this on a thread about a different board, but have you considered an inflatable? They are much lighter, easy to get in and out of the car, and still fun on flat water and small waves.

Paul your board looks great. I can't imagine being about to balance on it though, but it would be fun to try! Were you annoyed that they wrote you name upside-down?

Sorry CSE, as a surfer of 30 years I can't wrap my head around an inflatable for surfing, even in small waves. Cheers all the same.

There are lighter boards on the market, these are up there with them. My 8.0x28x4 is about 7kg and I haven't weighed the 10.1 yet. If you're at Burleigh you should go and check them out....
