Hi All
I am thinking of a trip to NZ and have a board 9'4" that i want to take over for a mate.
I have rung a few airlines but they are a bit evasive about size they will take until they see the board.
Has anyone travelled to NZ with a board
With which airline
Was there any grief
Any recommendations

Thanks
H

Dont think you would have any hassles with Qantas

I have taken a sub- nine foot board across on Qantas/Emirates. Definitely have to check for longer than that.

most of the previous threads on this topic seem to indicate a "sub 9 foot" rule.
not sure how valid this is though

Yep Thanks all
Unfortunately the board is 9'4" and short of cutting some off which kind of doesn't work
I need an airline that will take the board but they keep saying "Oh bring it to check in and we will assess it"
Which if you have been to Sydney airport is a pain in the arse enough if they even take it.
If they don't then Im standing in the check out line with a board that I can't take.
I read other threads and yep looks like sub nine foot

see you on the weekend Helmy if you are around

Aloha

I have travelled a couple of times to nz with boards longer than 9 ft without issue with emirates.

Virgin didn't have a problem with me taking my 7'10" to NZ - but maybe that was because they thought it was one of those two piece Sunovas and could just fold it in half.

Haha you been reading the news?
not the case with basically any other 'mainstream' break, and certainly not likely one that someone would be supping at.
just don't go exploring seculuded 'local' land spots which aren't well known

What's Up Benji and Last Supper?
The surfing line up is changing with overseas visitors.
Talked to local surf photographer.....he got years of surf photography history......and a glossy book of his pics.
He says he sometimes gets threatened by local surfers at Mahia........not the young guys......but older dudes.
Hope Benji and Last Supper are old......or that would blow my theory

Have been Perth to Auckland Air New Zealand 9' 6" Fanatic Prowave and a Naish Mana 9'5" about 3 years ago and I don't think things have changed much. Both boards suffered minor but annoying rail damage (slight crushing) despite being very well bubble wrapped inside a board bag. You wont be able to travel domestically in NZ with SUPs. You just show up at the oversize item counter with a smile on your face after checking in..by then the admin has been done.

Sorry gizzie nz, I'm young (ish) at 31 haha.
thats crazy! I'm based up near Auckland where it gets crowded but not really ever local, even as a sup on a predominantly shortboard break I've never really had any comments provided you're not kooking waves or risking anyone harm
