Hey Lads and Ladies,
I'm cruising down the coast from Cairns to NSW Sth Coast in early March. Looking for any advice on some sweet spots on the NSW Coast for some small surf, Nothing hectic or anywhere too crowded is what I'm after... Any advice/tips is hugely appreciated!! BTW - I'm on a Naish Mana 10'. Cheers!

Between scotts head and seal rocks is gods own country little towns big towns so much variety in waves you can't go wrong
South of the Newcastle crowds look out for blacksmiths, Caves Beach, Catho, Wallarah National Park, Norah head and soldiers beach to name a few ..... plenty of easy and generally uncrowded breaks ..... enjoy and travel safe !
A big part of the spirit/adventure/stoke of surfing has traditionally been exploring and finding spots. Reading maps and weather charts and actually thinking about where you will surf will bring you greater rewards than just asking for 'tips.'
Enjoy your road trip .
Ash mullet is right on the money, scotts head down to seal rocks is often referred to from locals as Gods Country as the water is some of the cleanest youll find on your trip, thats still nice and warm. (Maybe all locals do the same?)
March is a stella month for weather on the mid north coast and your trip is quite a long one from Cairns to south coast even in four weeks.
I would recommend researching numbucca heads, crescent head, south west rocks and scotts head. All beautiful spots, can get crowded but smaller waves are often available close by.
Arakoon bay is a place of natural beauty and well worth a stop just south of South West Rocks. Its beauty and the camping ground is a gem.
Im also a fan of soldiers beach, pulling up in the north car park, and watching the waves is often part of the weekend surf trip up the freeway from Sydney to Newcastle for the sydney sider looking for less crowds.
Newcastle also has another iconic carpark on the hill in town leading on to mereweather beach. And well worth a stop to frequent its cafes and beach living. Everyone in newcastle loves, the Knights, drinking and heading down the beach. The cafes are of sydney quality with a better vibe and atmosphere. Going out at night in newcastle can get heavy so make sure you go out with a local or stop drinking early.
Its well worth picking up a surf board or mal, driving from byron to south coast as there are an abundance of waves and march is a smaller month for swell.
