Have you tried the turps and towel method? Easier than the knife. But you can't do it in the house...

Out of curiosity, Hawaiiheke, what deck grip are you using on the replacement?

I used the Turps and towel method on my Minion to change my deck.pad to a deep one..highly recommended..worked really well..peeled off in one and then I repeated the process to take any left over residue off..

Soak a towel in turps and lay over deck
Cover with plastic
Leave for 15 minutes
The deck grip should peel right off
If not, drop a lighted match on it and buy a new board

Lordy...it was touch and go there for a moment but we got the job done in the end.

Ohh....and the grip's getting there too!

Yeah. Forgot about the turps and towel but wouldn't have been compatible with beer, chippies and cricket in the lounge so there you go.

Helpfully I ran out of acetone after a while so had to sit back and sweat / cry / anguish / bellow with joy over the game.

Have 1/3 off the pad still to go and the remnants of the other 2/3 to remove so will employ the turps method on the remainder.

Hear what you are saying cantSUP enough. Man! The paint job on that Coreban is a shocker. Took a shedload of paint off just removing the goddamn rail tape!

Might have to take down to the local panel beater for a re-spray!

808-O - That's a very fine question which I'm till yet to resolve. How hard is it to nail down decent replacement decks that aren't off the shelf and all black?! Someone should start a "customise your SUP" business with nice grip options / colours / designs.

Simon at Deep kindly shipped a grip over in a load of boards coming to NZ for me but, after eyeballing it, I don't think it's gonna work for me so I might have to run with a tail pad and track down some diamond cut foam from somewhere for the remainder. If anyone in NZ reading this wants a Deep grip lemme know!

After a lot of searching and mucking around I tried these guys: deckgrips.com/

They were helpful (but not terribly efficient so be patient) but they were very helpful. I went with boring show/camo design but it seems they can do almost anything. They are in Burleigh Heads, QLD, but I am sure they will post the deck grip to NZ.
