Phil forgot to tell you how you get to that buoy.......if you start on Maui it's 27km in semi-cross-wind, if you start on Molokai it's a solid grind into the wind. But if you can get dropped off by a boat it is heaven on earth!!!! Hope you are well Phil, miss the DWD month of July in Maui!
You start on the beach inline with the Kamalo Buoy paddle 500 metres across the reef, then the Downwind fun begins till 500 metres from the finish then it's a paddle back across the reef to the finish line on the beach.
No-one in there right mind would paddle out into a 35 knot head wind to start at The Kamalo Buoy unless you're a Kiwi and I did see a Kiwi do exactly that, like WTF hahaha mental.
Maliko was so much fun today I'd rate it about a 9/10 the Bumps and Glides where insane pretty much surfed the whole way to Kahului Harbour. Big thanks to Mark Raaphorst for shaping me my Custom 18ft V3 it's a weapon of a board and Jaecey Suda's Maliko Shuttle "The Fun" Bus to take us to the Gulch.
