Where in Melb are they building that?

You wouldn't want to fall off the wave because the queues are going to be longer than Disneyland.

I wonder if we could convert the Werribee sewerage farm into a jet ski park?
Those clowns give everyone the s***s anyway, so they wouldn't know the difference!

Could be the kick in the pants the surf industry needs to really fire again.

I know I will go check it out...can't imagine it would be cheap but worth it for the novelty factor. Hopefully they have a system that will mean people can get waves rather than standing in ques all day.

Are there others around the world already operating? I've only ever seen teaser clips from prototype pools.

Kelly's wave still makes wave garden look pretty b-grade, you'd have to say. Wonder why they went that way now when the KS model is so obviously better?

Some of you blokes live under a rock. Have you stopped to think how this will affect the crowd factor to real surf spots, that's rigjt more than what's happening now. Other non surfing EU countries will jump all over this ..with low Aus dollar makes a very attractive real surf destination. It's just fake surfing for the rich.
Hey you can always put plastic Dolphins in the deep end.

IMO any water based activity should be celebrated!

Hopefully this will be a success and will be replicated in other states.
Anything that encourages kids and adults to engage in healthy outdoor exercise has to be a good thing.

Bit like skate boarding really - if it keeps a few more urbanites in the concrete jungle and away from the beaches can't be all be bad

KS wave is spectacular, perfect, and really attractive to everyone but, ... it's not viable (business wise) at the moment.

The costs of building and operating a wave park depend exponentially on the wave height and power. Exponentially.

Everybody would love to have the possibility to have a perfect and powerful head height wave, but when you crunch the numbers. It's not feasible. Unless the park operators want or can lose a lot of money.

G'day Antho and Carles is this wave pool more your style them. I know which wave pool I'd rather, technology and cost of today is way cheaper than technology and cost of say 10-20 years ago.

Yes we need to build more Queensland sand points. 80 kg of turd wrapped in neoprene that are dropped on whoever is surfing the wave every 10 metres so it is actually like a Queensland wave. I watched Mick Fanning drop in on a few people this morning, He sets such a good example. No wonder a New South Welshmen and woman, lead the world surfing ratings. Real Queenslander's love things like Mt Tambourine, The Natural Arch, Mapleton Pub and Kondalilla Falls on the Sunny Coast and especially the Maroons. It's not just the (especially hated SUP) surf. Most of you so called locals are originally from Tas, Vic, NSW with the odd kid from Bris and rarely a fisherman's or Cane Farmers kids from the coast.

I was told that this forum was a joke because it's like 'The Wizard of Oz" The three main posters are 'The Tin Man" without a heart, 'The Scarecrow' without a brain and 'The Lion' without any courage. Then there are the "Munchkins" who agree with anything. Poor Dorothy, The Wizard and the Witches cant get a word in any more so they've left.

Wave pools are a big part of the future, be they Kelly Slater style ( my preference) or wave garden style. They'll put em in at beaches in SA, WA, VIC because they'll be money makers. The beauty is that people won't have to put up with hooch affected, Mushroom brain damaged Queensland surfers. Good luck with the Brazilian, American and Eureopean tourist crowds in sunny Queensland. I must say I enjoyed the testosterone driven, Downwinder , Lacy exchange about the Alley pumping. The gap is the MT space between the ears of two people that fight about something that is supposed to be fun. You should enjoy Gods own country instead of fight about about whose the 100,000th best surfer on the the coast or the 100,001st best. You're both old and no one except you two care!!

I always enjoy the board talk and reviews. I hope you all eventually realize how lucky we all are to enjoy the water in Australia and the last thing you need to do is bucket anybody else who does. If you guys spent as much time on a surfboard as a Keyboard there wouldn't be these negative sorts of post that helps no one and makes certain people look like bigger idiots than they already are. Problem is they don't realize it. Surf, have fun stay safe and take your doctor prescribed medication when your supposed to.

The KS pool is amazing. No one can argue with that. But it's new and they have not worked how to monetise yet - one would imagine though that they are very advanced down this stage already - especially given how it was unearthed. The Wavegarden pool in Wales has had nothing but trouble since it opened - it's been closed for long periods of time. Yes it looks soft etc but better than most waves that the majority of people surf on a regular basis in and around the big cities of the world.

The reality is that technology and wave pools will grow. It will introduce more people to surfing over time and that will have a cascading effect everywhere. It's reality. People wil learn to surf in wavepools in the middle of nowhere far from the ocean. They will then go on surf trips to places they can only dream about now.

The popular spots will become more crowded - they always do. People want to tick those boxes.

But the great thing is that there is still loads of waves around if you have the energy and time to get there. There are loads of great waves around the place that are still uncrowded and will remain so for a variety of reasons.

Wavepools will be great if you are stuck in a crap place, work long hours, have cash, want to work on technique, learn. Over time though they will creat more havoic than I wish to think about. Thankfully this will probably not impact me too much. But if you live somewhere like the Goldie then be ready. But then again you know how it is already and you know it's only going to get worse. So you have time to make some decisions and get on with enjoying your preferred pursuit elsewhere. Wavepools are reality and the number of surfers will only continue to Increase. Make a plan / choice and deal with it.

I am looking forward to playing in a decent wavepool soon. It will not be for a long time but a very enjoyable one I suspect.
