So I'm looking at getting a sup for my boys birthdays to share but also one that me and my partner can still use, I'm the heaviest at 85kg so really it just has to be good for me ?? To be honest I don't know much about sup boards so any ideas of what size, brand, style would be good ?? don't really want to go buy one from bcf that won't last for the price. Cheers
It is tricky to recommend the right board because it really depends upon how much you will use it and how you will use it. Will you surf it or just flat water?
First, there are a lot of used boards for sale and some will look brand-new.
Second, there are inflatable boards that are tough and good to use, and they offer the benefit of not requiring much space for storage and transport.
Otherwise, for an 85 kg guy with OK balance you would go 32" or wider, and no shorter than 10'. 33" x 11' should feel comfortable for you. If you can demo it you will know for sure.
I have personally had good experience with Sunova and Deep, and OK experience with Naish and Starboard. But they are premium brands so you would need to be sure the board will get used. www.thesurfboardwarehouse.com.au sells boards that are not as expensive as the other brands I mentioned and the quality should be fine.

There are a heap of brands to choose from but to narrow your choice down I would recommend selecting an all-rounder (for versatility, surf/flat). And stick to something 10' ft to 10'6 long, 32" wide and not an inch narrower and something in the 4.5-5" thick range.
These dimensions will give you plenty of float, for you and the famz and isn't to cumbersome for the lighter of the bunch.
The width is is the most important thing for stability and ease of use in my opinion so stick with 32" and you'll be happy as Larry. I slightly pinched out tail with some nice concaves will allow you to have fun in the surf.
Also in terms of strength and durability you will find the bamboo vieneer models (make sure its bamboo top and bottom, not just top, ie sandwich) is actually stronger than straight carbon wrap models and also much cheaper.
Personally I'd purchase new as you can get some old 2016 models cheap this time of year... But I've got a few boards for sale if your on the GC.. Nudge nudge

For playing (not serious distance paddling) around on the flat and having a few waves too, i reckon the Naish 9'5 and 10'6 that have just popped up in the Buy and Sells at Balcatta would be worth considering.
I have the 10'6 and reckon it's a great longboard style surf SUP. Pretty good fum for paddling a couple of kms around in the river too. Everyone from kids to pensioners have had a go on it in the local river. But you can progress with it in waves too. Just my 2 cents.
