Hey there, just hoping to get some advice for my next purchase. I've been borrowing a friends kwad 8'7" and love it. Just paddling up the river but is so stable even in the chop & all reviews say how great it is for waves big and small.I can't find one to buy but there is a 8'7" stun gun available. . Does anyone know if it's much of a muchness? Is it as stable on waves? Just small waves for me. I'm 60 - 62 kilos 5'4" Any advice very much appreciated

Hi Mili, have not ridden either board, looking at the two shapes the fuller outline of the Kwad would make it more stable for the same size.

I have only tested both very briefly, but the kwad will be stabler than the stun gun.

Note that, at your weight, the stun gun 8'7" will be very manageable, and will be easier to roll to put on a rail for carving turns: a stable board means that it will be also harder to roll. On the kwad you will have to move more to the aft for turning.

This said, I think the kwad is the best choice for a light beginner/intermediate: the parallel rails and wide nose makes taking off on the waves a lot more safer and easier.

stun gun quite an advanced board. kwad has much wider tail.
BUT you are light so can probably get away with it. wouldnt say the stun gun would be much of a paddler up the river tho.
i ride a jimmy lewis worldwide, probably in between the two. another option to look out for if you chasing.
ring jason or sonya at west oz boardsports and see what they can find for you.

hi Mili, I have paddled both boards, yes the kwad is more stable, but saying that you would have no problems on the stungun at your weight and for the type of board the stungun is a pretty good flatwater paddler, I often paddle mine 6km if I can't find any waves.

I've owned both the KWAD and Stun Gun in 8'7" and as others have said the KWAD is noticeably more stable especially in bumpier days but I weight 85kgs which is a fair bit more than your weight and pretty sure you'd have no issue with the Stun Gun. Say this because I also had a 9'2" Stun Gun and found that heaps more stable than the 8'7"and at your weight may be a similar principle.

BTW looking for another 8'7" Stun Gun if anyone has one they want to sell off.

Hi. I own both. The Kwad is more stable. The Stun Gun is a better wave board in my opinion. It has a defined rail so it can turn rail to rail. The rounded pin tail gives a nice outline to the turns. I like the Stun Gun as it is nice to surf on the back hand as well. I find the Kwad a bit stiff when I go back to it now. The rounded pin of the Stun Gun does affect the stability a touch as it's like a pivot point... but you get use to it quickly. You'll need to sit a touch shallower for waves than the Kwad as the rocker shape and rounded pin does require this. It has 5 fin options so I love this part of it. The construction on both is rock solid.... seems a touch better on the stun gun to me.... Kwad is good and I take it out for ripple riding ... but I'll surf the stun gun in anything from waist high upwards. It performs great in bigger waves with a face to work on. The Stun Gun is great for late drops handles it easy. The Kwad not so much.
You'll love it.

I own both as well as people have mentioned ,the stungun is the go to board when the surf gets larger and hollower its thinned out rails with a classic rounded pin makes it a no brainer for pushing yourself in challenging conditions, but saying that I've surfed it in everything and it's a great board ,but I love my kwad everytime I hit the surf on it ,its just so much fun to ride and I'm just a sucker for a swallowtail so for me the kwad wins by a nose
