jL destroyer for sale,on wave sup section margeaux the seller has the 8.2 rnb as well,maybe have a chat to him.The rnb rails will definitely get a mention,as well as the speed,but I think he prefers the jL, as I would to,both boards high end construction can not go wrong with either.what type of waves,age ability weight height blah,blah,I get the confusion we have all been there good luck with your choice.

RNB every day IMO, absolute weapons in a lot of surf conditions and tough as nails, cant fault it.

Ill be honest and say I have not surfed both so can only comment on the RNB but once you come across 'The One' why would you change right?

Had it in pumping beach breaks and offshore reefbreaks as well as mushy versions of beach and reef breaks.

Super light to carry around as well, hard to believe they can be made that light.

I havent ridden either, but similar shapes (Gong NFA 8' and Karmen 8'4" repectively), so I guess my experience of their differences can be useful.

I'd say based on the type of shape on the pics that the destroyer should be great if you crave the glide feeling of a longboard, but in a modern package, not limited at all to noseriding. And the RnB the obvious choice if not.

And yes, based of the experience of friends owning JL or Infinity boards, you definitively cannot go wrong with either. Both boards should be able to tackle any conditions.

Sorry Colas but the Destroyer is far from a longboard or funboard.. It's a stable but high performance sup that anyone can ride from novice to pro as long as you get the size that suits your ability...That's the key to Colas...Be honest about your ability...

I don't think I categorized the destroyer as a longboard or a novice board.
I really enjoyed my NFA 8', as it provided this feeling of glide, while being able to carve turns and handle any conditions. A board that put smile on your face.

But if people are not specifically looking for this feeling, whatever their abilities, they will benefit from a more shortboard like board. Otherwise JL would only have the Destroyer as a model :-)

Actually Colas Jimmy has managed to make a performance board that everyone can ride that actually makes the "shortboard" seem obsolete....I would much prefer my "new" 7'7 Destroyer than my old 7'10 Super Tech...Same performance but better in ALL conditions...
It all comes down to the tail & how you fin your board....Unlike other brands that make "gimmicky" boards Jimmy doesn't & has 50 years of hands on shaping experience & can still back it up with his surfing & paddling.... Combined with his shaping skill, knowledge & construction 90% of people I see sup'ing or posting videos of themselves should be on a board that suits their ability...

i dont have either boards but that destroyer looks like a nice shape to rip into it

Note that the Destroyer is 8'0"x30" 115l
The RnB 8'2" comes in 2 sizes:
8'2"x29"x115l
8'2"x30"x125l
So if he sells the Destroyer because it is too small, I guess he has the 125L RnB ?

Yes he messaged me about getting the 8'5" Destroyer but I'm sold out or getting the new 10' Destroyer as the 8'0 is too small...

Colas two boards equal volume doesn't necessarily mean equal stability

I've ridden both and ,sorry Rob( JL), the RNB hands down. Full transparency, I own and ride a 7'11" RNB and find it more responsive and produces far more drive. It's my everyday board for most conditions, paddles well in junky conditions. Also ,it's built like a brick ****ter, very,very durable... to be fair I don't know the build quality of the JL but friends have other JL's and they happy with the quality.

Hi Rooster, once I've been reading all advice up here into this thread it appears that nobody did talk about the bottom shape of these two boards which are completely different ones. RNB runs concaves all along when Destroyer bottom shape seems to be convex all along the bottom. Personally, I would have a go with the Destroyer at 8'2" as an all-around smooth board but I would go RNB at a smaller size to rage smaller waves.
Please, Jimmy Lewis board would you confirm what is the bottom shape of the destroyer? because everybody is focusing on outline and rocker when the bottom shape is the part of the board where the water flows first and from where all the overall shape come from.

The best board I have had by far. Keep getting amazed by a huge range. Today, I was paddling in very rough, wind driven chop - my kite surfboard broke :( - and the board was super stable and catching small crappy, confused waves with ease. It is a real quiver killer. The only other SUP I still use is my love of 10 years - JL M14.

I haven't ridden an RNB so can't compare but I just got myself the 8 5' Destroyer and love it. Good in choppy 2-3 ft waves and handled really well and performed in solid over head stuff. Great board!

I was over at Rob's place during the week to pick up a paddle and saw the Jimmy Lewis Destroyer 7'7 x 29 and I can tell you it looked very very nice. I picked it up and was immediately surprised at how light this board is which leads me to think that it would be very easy to throw around
on a wave. Couple that with the traditional reputation for durability with the Jimmy Lewis boards and this becomes an attractive option.

My intention is to purchase this very board.

Pulled the trigger and bought the 7'7.

Got the gentleman's treatment from Rob in what was for me a fantastic purchase.

What I can say for now is that this board is very light for its size.

Now to decide if I take this board to Hawaii in two weeks or not :)
