Aloha - We all know that sometimes things get posted on Seabreeze that are ridiculous, I hardly ever post anymore because of the negative spirit that is contained in responses. I am a surfer, I will always be a surfer, I will die being a surfer. To be a surfer you need to show the 'Aloha' spirit the Gerry Lopez whom I idolised as a twelve year old and begIning to really get into surfing, I used to borrow my Uncles board, who many of the old locals knew as Coola and was one of the originals to surf in the early 60s at Bells and Johanna at ridiculous sizes and without leashes. They knew the spirit of
Aloha - Claw Sing Ding, Brooksy, Fish, Yoda and Moose all the old legends in Vicco know Aloha which is why they are successful. They made surfing into a commited, recreational and practical lifestyle in Victoria and then the world. This Gerry Lopez clip should be made mandatory for all of the people that own any type of surfcraft, Standup padddle boards, Longboarders, shortboarders and even boogers and kneegrovellers.
It always blows me away when I see young guys on a paddleboard. I'd give up 10 years of my life to be physically able to shortboard again. Gerry Lopez is absolutely spot on. If some kook drops in on you smile and surf around them, you can get past most of them by surfing around the back of them up near the lip it freaks them out, they won't drop in again if you do that. There will always be another wave so don't go ballistic when someone drops in say "Aloha" as you surf around them. I know a lot of people on standup paddle boards just go straight because they are beginner surfers, please, please learn the basics!! When a wave is breaking left go left, when a wave is breaking right go right, do not snake people!! That is paddling to the inside of the breaking wave when someone has already caught it down the line and then riding up to them as if you where the first person on the wave. Surfing is in fashion at the moment so be patient, surf places that reflect your ability and wait for your turn when you are in the lineup. Lastly be friendly a lot of us old standup riders are doing it only because we have debilitating injuries that prevent us from surfing short, or Longboards. More and more good older ex short and longboard surfers are taking up SUPs and on that note 'Aloha' to you all. Watch the clip twice. Then check out that grinding left that is above the clip. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! 'ALOHA' to all that make it to the end of this ridiculously long piece of casual observation. WATCH, LISTEN AND LEARN, please!!!!
for the last time 'Aloha'
