For down wind, you will enjoy a little width, for both stability, and planing area, so you can spend a little more time on the plane...
Wider tail areas help to get you up and planing too.

If money was no object for a DW board, why wouldn't you go and get a custom SIC,

Interesting you say that.....surely a board that is a bit on the wider side will be slower and therefore not get on the wave quite as easy?

Is the rocker quite different between the glide 29 and Jav 28?

Yeah, if cost was no concern, I'd ring up Mark Raaphorst at SIC, explain what I want the board for and in what conditions I'd be paddling it, and tell him about myself, and then let him make me something perfectly tuned to me.

Or maybe I'd ring up Joe Bark and get a custom from him, along the lines of the Vapor.

In production board terms you've already had some good suggestions. No-one has a bad word to say about the Naish Glide 14x29, except maybe that it is a bit on the heavy side.

I have both the SIC 14' x27.5" V2 bullet and recently got a Blue Planet Bump Rider 14x28". The boards are very similar, however the Blue Planet down winds better than the SIC with a little more volume, being slightly lighter too. Neither is super quick up wind or in the flat but both are very stable. The Blue Planet is under $3000 new being cheaper again by almost a $1000 new.
Also the Bump Rider comes in a 30" version. Look up Blue Planet Australia, they're located in Tuggerah NSW. Good luck with your choice.

He said an all round Down wind, Race and Training board.
Not just a down wind board.
the SIC's are good for one thing. down winding! pigs in the flat. you wouldn't train on a custom SIC 14 bullet unless ur training is 25knots down wind everyday.

It's not 14' for starters but as an all-rounder i'm finding the Ace GT ticks a lot of boxes!

NSP DC 14x 28 will carry you no problem and do an all round job
Or
Starboard AllStar Carbon 14x 28 ( some people don't rate them though but they're not as big as you)
Or
Custom Deep in anything you want and they will paint it whatever you fancy. And supporting our local lads. Can't go wrong.

The "canoe" shapes slide and glide through the water.
But flat bottom boards get up and plane, when going downwind.
I had an awesome DW run on an old 12'6 x 29 Full Carbon Fanatic... Fairly Flat rocker... ... Wide tail.
I was on the plane for what felt like 90% of the time...

Physics tells you that you need extra planing area for extra weight.

SIC make extremely successful flat water race boards (eg. the X series), and if you go custom as many of us were suggesting then SIC would make you exactly what you need, which in this case would probably be a hybrid (maybe like the FX, but SIC have done various custom hybrids in the past including UL ones).

SIC don't just make downwind boards. Take a look at the SUPRacer battle of the brands leaderboard - most of those points have been won using their flat water boards not their downwind ones.

What Area10 said. Oh, and to limit yourself to a 14' is as silly as using a canoe paddle to SUP. How about a nice 16 or 17 foot variation of the new FX open water race board. Hollow carbon-Kevlar, of course. With the new FAST steering system that can be replaced with a fixed fin. This was an open ended question - don't limit yourself...go unlimited.

I have the Glide 14 x 29 but I think a higher volume option will work better for someone like yourself who weighs over 250 pounds. The starboard allstar 14 x 27 or 28 are higher volume and will go better upwind and you won't be giving up much, if anything on the DW. Better all around options imo. Nsp dc have good options for ocean boards as well and the jimmy lewis sidewinder will be released this spring with choices for bigger paddlers for an all conditions training board. The custom route has been mentioned as well which would be something to consider.

Having seen you paddle recently and knowing what you look like, and the fact that you would probably like to paddle with an esky on board, this is the board for you. I didn't think of this one earlier today. I'll bring it to training on Tuesday. Glad that I know money is no object.

It's alright Lacey. Money is no object. I've got 3 boards in mind for him now. One to go downwind, one to race and one to train on.
