Just got back from a boat trip in the Mentawais. I took 2 short boards and a 7 ft SUP.
I rode my short boards 90% of the time. All the main breaks were fully loaded with proners and most reef set ups didn't allow an exit into a channel with a non duck diving vessel (i.e SUP). I had the only SUP on board which didn't help in choosing a wave suitable.
If I was to do the Ment's again I would travel with a like minded SUP crew on a boat or pick a land camp with a SUP friendly wave in the vicinity

Great photo's Smitty!! Were you stoked with how the Minion went when you were able to get on it??
Heading back in September and thinking that will be the only SUP I take this time with short board quiver.

Hey Wezzy
Yeah I'm stoked with the minion.
BUT it wasn't all fun and games. Good wipeouts and a bit more heavy than maldives (cantSUPenough)

Just a bit!! Your waves could dole out a fair pounding by the looks.

Were you trying barefoot skiing in that photo?

you should be able to handle a 124L minion if you;re under 120kgs, as they are mega-stable. If you;re 95kgs I'd seriously consider going smaller to at least 110-115L if not smaller again say 105L. that way you could be on a 7'6"x28 1/2" x 4" or less, which is going to be way better performance etc. IMHO.

smitty, totally agree about the duck diving issue - just back from the ments myself and a few delightful trips underwater were had, god knows how i didn;t snap a leggie but I did get washed up once. definitely heavier than most waves in the maldives, too. and all that deep water made it harder to read the sets, so i got caught a bit more than usual too. will post a pic or two soon.
cheers
