Aquarian is holding out on us really......has lots of nice sunrise pics but too shy to share them.
Here she at town beach a couple of days ago. All turned to custard but looked good for a moment or two

Certainly was a buzz being out on the water instead of being behind the camera. Might even be able to tick off a bucket list wish before summer is out.

I'm thinking of going to New Plymouth at Easter to surf and take the family on a holiday.

How are the waves there GizzieNZ?
A lot of longish looking fat ones?
Anything really quality (Bommies/reefs)?
Chances of scoring in two weeks?

heaps of quality waves around the coast between Wanganui and New Plymouth.....think they call it the "surf highway". Am not expert on that area.....but if you buy a quality surf guide and don't mind a drive or two you should not be disappointed. Some breaks are around New Plymouth itself
If you can access a recently released book you will find heaps of pics of local breaks.
Is called "Taranaki Surf-Dazed"....Local Surf Photography 2008-2013

Yep it is Gizzie, and its called "surf highway" for a good reason, plenty of good breaks beach, river bars and points. Taranaki/ New Plymouth is unique in that you can almost get it offshore along this stretch of coast most days due to its landscape. like everywhere you bring a good attitude and the locals will only be to happy to share waves and info. Check Stent Rd and Weld Rd and there's a fantastic river Bar that starts with "W" most of the breaks along this coast can get pretty solid so don't be afraid to ask the locals.

Easter is prime surf season here in Taranaki , they run a big masters surf contest over Easter that always has good waves and welcomes visitors to compete, don,t think they have a sup division though. Plenty of spots to surf but don,t expect to be welcomed at Stent rd, it is pretty much a no go area for sups and there are plenty of other waves. Not a lot of sups on the better waves here and we try to avoid getting greedy and let a few waves go past to keep everyone happy, 3 sups on a peak can really ruin every one elses day if they are not into sharing.

I did live at a W Road once upon a time when you could camp there (well was a KM Bedford house truck with a blown motor that was to blame)

But that was Weld Road......went back a while ago and it was all fenced in. Back in the day it was river water heated up in a copper above a fire at night time....then chucked into a big plastic barrel which was our version of a spa pool (only one punter at a time though)
