Wow, cool Hilly… Thanks for posting this…
A little more insight on these…
The top and bottom boards are two different shapes. Top is the first I ever did with my single hull entry blended into the concave bottom rails. 8-8 x 29-7-16" x 4-3/8" I totally adjusted the rocker to accommodate everything going on and placed the fins a little different from what I normally do to. The board I'm surfing is Tom Carroll's entry design we been working on blended with concave bottom rails, has a single concave in the middle. That one is just such a radical looking board but works insane and nose rides really well even with the nose pulled in. That one is 8-4 x 29-1/2" x 4-3/8". Tom Carroll is frothing to ride a custom like this I will shape for him. Cool thing about both of these designs is you can make the boards shorter or longer and even wider into the 30's and it still rips hard.
Funny story about the second pic. There's a guy a little older than me named Denton Miyamura from here in Hawaii. Denton in the 80's was a top, world class pro surfer on the tour and now he likes to do sup surfing and he surfs amazing. Radical with power. Anyway, he borrowed that board and used it a few times. He called me up so stoked he wanted to buy it. I really didn't want to sell it as it was the first Prototype TC/BC HD2 blend but he got me to sell it to him because he was so stoked on it. I gave him an amount and he showed up and handed me the amount plus $200 dollars more. I was pretty stoked he liked it that much! That was 2 weeks ago. Since then people are finding me that watched him surf it and putting in their orders.
A customer sent me something on that other sup forum site where someone posted the same thing as you did here and of course the responses by some of the usual suspects are negative. Like I claimed to of invented concaves or something.. It's pretty laughable. Some of the responses are from people who ummmm, how would I put it… Never ever turned a sup board hard in their life and will find every reason to try and discredit my designs for whatever reason. I will say this before I get back to work. I created the BLEND of curves and contours in my HD2's to work the way they do and they work incredible. This blend has never been done before. All my customers who surf theirs are stoked and it's making some of us old farts get more radical, carve harder, throw more buckets of water… I'm 50 yrs old and cranking harder turns than I ever have on a sup board. It's definitely not because I'm getting better at surfing because, well, I'm far past my prime surfing ability! It's because my boards are allowing it to become easier and easier to consistently carve hard and smash sections. The way I figure it I only got so many years left to surf hard so I want every session to count. Last week I got a good, lined up wave and I hit it so hard 6 times in a row. All my might full power smashes. When I kicked out I thought I was gonna PASS OUT! Haha!
Thanks for posting this. I glass most of my orders now so I have to get back to laminating etc. Hope good surf heads your way! Aloha, Blane
