Mid North Coast of NSW. No crowd for the big percentage of the year. Multiple point breaks within a few hours.Work is the big thing, with not alot unless you have specific skills. Climate is awesome and the people are friendly as!! Happy as a clam living here!!

So many beautiful places to surf and sup in Australia! I've got a bit of a list here...Here we go
I grew up on the Northern beaches of Sydney... always surf somewherebetween Manly and Palmy!
I lived on the NSW Central Coast and went to University in Northern NSW and got to call Byron Bay my home for Four years...no surf there!!
I moved to Queensland's Sunny Coast more than thirty years ago ...that's where my family and my heart is.
I now find myself in Vicco and am amazed at the variety of places to sup. Port Phillip and Corio Bay are unreal for downwinders and just cruising. Surf is everywhere... the West Coast is unreal (Bells is there for Pete'sake), and you have Mornington Penninsula and Phillip Island and heaps more places to surf. The water is cold but really clean and the crew are really friendly. I'm sure there are stacks more beautiful places to sup but this will do me just fine until wanderlust strikes again!

Don't live in WA. Over crowded surf, heaps of sharks, expensive and so far behind the rest of the country.
Lived and surfed at Avoca - with Copacabana Forresters and "The Box, abt 4 times a year" This was between 1950 to 1989 -- then lived at Scotts Head/Grassy Head from 1989 to 2009 -- 2011 till the present at Arrawarra Headland - walk off back deck thru national park for 5 min and walk and swim before brekky.
All these spots were great in their time - now too crowded ( remember 4 people out at the box 6 ft and then 2 more come out and you go home -too crowded )
Also BIG Forresters was great, now it looks like a very hard get out - the odd close out from the lefts to banzai.
Scotts was great with great people but I ran out of work - lost the desire anyway - changed career and went on to Arrawarra
Any location with reasonable waves, good friends and enough money coming in to really enjoy life is THEPERFECT SPOT.
PS - have just finished a granny flat/air bnb - Sorting out the method and payment
ie: will pick up couples at Coffs airport and supply sup boards or you drive yourself and bring your own

I know what you mean about getting too crowded. My mate moved up to Woolgoolga 3 Summers ago. Went and visited him that first Summer and he took me to Arrawarra Headland, I thought it was fantastic and only a few people there. Called in again this last Summer, 20 people sitting out there

Anywhere on the coast is pretty special in this great land, except where crocodiles are, they're scary.
I would like to nominate Perth metro area as the WORST place for sup surfing in the country ( ok I know there are places that have zero waves whatsoever but I'm not counting those)
waves are small and very crowded, basically non existent for half the year, windy, choppy and there are really only a couple breaks that hold enough shape to be suitable for sup surfing, the rest is just dumpy close out beach breaks.
When you do get an epic swell where Margaret river is 4 times overhead Hawaii style bombs Perth is overhead at best and you have a choice of dumping close outs where you can't get out or crappy little reef breaks that on the best days are so overrun with long boards, short boards and reckless noobs on 10 foot sups that it is actually quite dangerous to even go out!!
If if you take an hour drive north or south of the Perth metro beaches you can upgrade from terrible and crowded to mediocre and crowded!
For downwind or flatwater Perth has the goods but the surf situation here is really dismal
oh and let's not forget about the Sharks

In regards to SUP surf, the best thing about Perth is that it's only 3.5hrs and a couple hundred $ from Bali
Yes definitely the best thing about surfing in Perth is going somewhere else and not surfing in Perth !!

If you can look past solo surfs in pumping waves with seals and greats whites....South Oz has its benefits....Here is my master plan for living in South Australia;
Find a misus accommodating enough to let you complete the following steps;
Step 1: Pitch a $60 tent on the beach somewhere and live in it. You have your pick of beaches because there is at least 400kms of coastline with not a person on it.
Step 2: Day by day, you keep accumulating drift wood off the side of the road, or on the walk back from another epic day of fishing, and over a couple of years you build a makeshift shack, slowly though, you don't want to waste too much time slaving away.
Step 3: Work for about a month a year so you have enough for your home brewing kit. Any job will do. You fit it in with a Christmas trip to see the family, making the most of the summertime work around Christmas as everybody wants to hire you for something then.
Step 4: When the government offers you the land your tent is on for a really cheap price, say ten grand, say no, because you can just put your tent up somewhere else.
Step 5: When your mates complain about being a slave and wasting their lives working 11 months a year just tell them you would love to get a job but you cant read so no one will hire you.

Where?... Living anywhere where you can get to any waterway within a reasonable walk or drive to you... That's the beauty of SUP I reckon... I call SUP the "Push Bike" of the waterways... For me I prefer not to drive and I'm lucky/unlucky to be able to carry my board 10min walk to an inner city bay in Sydney (with signs warning of sewerage overflow after heavy rain)
Why?... Because I can get on my board and feel the joy of Paddling, tweaking my technique, feeling the micro improvements over the years, trying this, trying that, riding the forever changing conditions, but just loving Paddling and being out on the water.

I have failed the first and most difficult
part of the plan, the misus part. Once you **** that up its pretty
much check mate.
Yep, move in two doors down from tardy, its a walk across the road and into the national park, then onto the beach, if your inclined its a short walk over the hill and then into the lake. Oh and the lake just might happen to have a great club which sells beer for the post sub recovery.
As for the surfers they are somewhat absent these days since the shark attack down the road.
Actually that might be not where tardy lives but its a great spot on the mid north coast.
Just a reference Joseph, the mid north coast has been the same since i started going there in the early 90's. Around 2000, 2001 was the busiest and its actually getting less busy. Think its got something to do with the centrelink caper.
Just don't come up in peak holiday time and think its going to be uncrowded. Also if its going to be on, then the newcastle crew might make a bolt up north on the weekend or odd weekday.
As for WA, its so busy because of the coverage it got back in the early 2000, everyone knew it had uncrowded waves with epic spots, offshore half the year, cheap as chips and a huge shortage of men. It was like almost 2 to 1 ladies for blokes then.
Then the mining boom took off and all players went over there and now its quite busy.
Yeah. Just need a job there. Maybe that's another post. Jobs for sup
