Really keen to start SUPing but unsure which type of board to purchase and from where. Foreign to the sport but really keen to get started. Not which type of board to purchase, wanna buy a decent bard but not too expensive and cheap junk either.
New to Forums so keen for guidance.

Get a 10 footer ...160-200 litres .,naish ,JP,sunova,starboard ,..to name a few .
go a carbon paddle ...just as important .

Youve posted at the right time as all the wise souls here are chilling back for the festive season. I was guided through my beginning days here on this forum. Youll need to post a few particulars, weight, height, surfing experience, fitness, expected usage, location.
My suggestion would be to head down to st kilda and hire a board, on a not to windy day, Bring a friend its more fun.
Just head out for an hour and see how you go. If you like the board look for one second hand and your off, Youll probably want a new paddle. Also take a lesson if your struggling. This is the funnest part of your sup development. Dont worry about progressing too fast. Everyone has been a learner once and you will find other sup riders very helpful. Get ready for some, fun times and some guns. As the paddling sure helps with the old muscles.

About 6ft tall 84Kg had no surfing experience just snow board a bit during the winter. Pretty fit from gym.
Hoping to head to Mordialloc or Patterson Lakes somewhere local in the Bay to begin with and see how it goes from there. Hoping to get out once a week maybe more after work.

Hoping to hire a board this weekend from SUP Warehouse is Mordialloc I believe they rent out boards.
Really keen to purchase one to enjoy over the summer holidays.

enjoy the ride....i never had anywhere to hire boards in my area....so it had 3 of us all brought 10 foot 190 litre naish Manas ...great board
for learning ,wide enough at 32 to be a great stable platform ...we all ended up surfing them ,they still have theirs and get used every week ,cause its just a really easy size to carry and ride ,and learn to surf ...I've moved to smaller boards ..but the mana was my stepping stone to a fantastic sport .
I Now have 8 boards ....

spend as much as you can afford .on a adjustable carbon paddle ...i still have my first one after 3.5 years ...amount others ... merry Suping .

Pay for a lesson. I resisted this idea but a mate kept on encouraging me to fork out some money. It was worth it and it got me hooked. I haven't stopped learning almost three years later. I still can't wait to get out every morning.

Thanks Tardy and Suporatpr for the advice. I'l take a look at the adjustable carbon fibre paddle and try book a lesson these holidays. Any suggestion where to purchase a board from? Seen some posts that SUP warehouse may be the go?

the MANA 10 .... is naishsurfing.com ...
i think down your way is the ZU.but if you have a board warehouse ,,,your laughing ...you might see something similar that catches your eye .
even go a older model save some $$ some great cost outs at the mo ,they haven't changed much ...i know a lot of people will say go smaller
but it won't be as good for flat water .which i think you will be doing a lot of in your first years ..i use 200 litre boards and up to 285 litre boards for flat water ..

Hey Tardy awesome thanks for the advice. Probably will be hitting the flat water to begin with also its a lot closer than the open surf.

I have been passed to see Nick and spoken to him a couple of times. His an awesome bloke keen to buy from him just trying to get the right board. Are there more events like this?

Buy a cheap inflatable from eBay www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-BESTWAY-Inflatable-Stand-Up-Paddle-Board-Sup-Kayak-3M-65078/152804680892 and try it out on the river.

I bought 2 of them and they work great if you're under 80kg.

I also bought this inflatable... http://atollboards.com/isup/ for about $1200 fully imported. It can hold a tank and is very stable.

I gotta alloy adjustable paddle since I started suping it goes fine its light and cheap...weighs about 1.7 kgs...dont know why youd need a top of the line paddle immediately?

1.7kg, the horror...

No need to get a top of the line paddle. But just a fiberglass one in the 600-800g range will be immensely more enjoyable, with less risks of hurting yourself (tendinitis), and will make you progress faster. And it will be gentler when hitting the rails.

Hey pjesje weigh over 80kg so the inflatable option may not be the best??

Heading down to mornington on Wednesday to hire a board for the day see how it goes. Hoping to purchase a board after that.

Still so confused want a good one thats not overly expensive. Hoping to get more answers after mornington.
