This year's Toyota Australian SUP Titles at Currumbin will see the introduction of two SUP Community Challenges on Sunday, October 19,

These new additions will allow the general public to take part in the 2014 event as SUP Community Challenge competitors do not need to qualify through their State rounds.

It will include a short course (5-10km) race, which will consist of six individual SUP divisions, as well as a marathon race (20km), which will consist of an Open Men’s and Open Women’s division.

Entries are now open - for more event information and entry details visit:

This is a great addition to the SUP Nationals. Surfing Australia have acknowledged the "inclusive" nature of the SUP community and have insured that it's just the "elite guys" that get to participate at the Nationals. It also allows the guys and girls that aren't Australian Citizens to get out there and race against Australia's best.

The 20km community race starts with the National guys - same line, same wave and same finish. Open to anyone, any nationality.(according to the race details)

The 10km race is a fantastic option for anyone wanting to get over and be a part of the SUP Nationals. This is a Nationals for everyone in the SUP community, not just the elite - come along, get inspired, have fun and share the stoke!

Goochi, maybe you know the answer to this..website says PFD required for nationals as well as leg rope, yet QLD race didn't require PFD. Is this correct?

Yup, PFD type 1,2,3(including inflatable type 1) and leg rope minimal requirement for marathon. This is standard for all marathon SUP events around Australia.
Only leg rope for Tech Race

Sandgropers all loaded up and ready for delivery.
Expect to find lost paddles in abundance at Currumbin in the next week or so.

question for the G.C locals..
What is the ideal wind directions and swell for the two courses they will decide between for the marathon.
I'm entering in the marathon and at that distance it will be a little challenge in the right conditions if the conditions are off not sure ill put myself up for the slog and will just do the shorter fun race. I heard from people who did the state race it was a real slog.

When do entries close for the community races. I'll jump on the marathon if it's going to be down-winder-able conditions but that's only going to be known at best the day before.
