Long story, went to the prom today and squeezed in a 2 hour surf. Started at pinic but side-wind mucked it up. Then went to Norman Bay. Had some nice, off-shore fun waves.

But I also tried an experiment with the GoPro - as you will see, it didn't work. Brim of hat in the shot, and seemed to point too low. Captured a few OK waves - see below.

Good effort cSe. Did you fasten your GoPro to the actual peak?

Those FCS caps have large peaks...maybe a brand like Dakine would be a better option?

With the right conditions, it is hard to beat.

You are right, I need a shorter brim. I did try lifting the front of the camera but the little chock I had in there fell out... The other challenge is to make sure it is pointing in the right direction. The surfing vid is probably boring for most people, but I like reliving my sessions...

Hi CSE.... you are on the right track.
No need for a shorter brim.... the problem is your sessions is right on the brim.
I use a GoPro Tripod mount that raises the cam up just enough.

Most important.....You also need to set your sessions up as "Super View".... that gives a full view of all the action (see pic below)

I will make a new post about my " Kook Hat Cam" with the full super easy set up, so others may find it easily.

The pics you get of action, friends and wildlife are very cool and it is so easy to wear and use.

You know, I wondered if the view was set to the widest frame possible... Right now it is dead so I can't check. Last night the software said there was a new version of the Session firmware. Made the mistake of installing it. Now the little red light keeps blinking and it does not respond to anything. The online recovery instructions aren't working. Not happy with GoPro right now...

You are right - the Session on the side of the helmet works well - if you want to wear a helmet.
