I would just like to share with the SUP community how great the sport is at the grass roots level and how SUP clubs in Australia are the heart and soul of the sport.
On the weekend just passed the final King and Queen of Clubs Tri-Series event was held at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast. This series is basically three events held on the Gold Coast (hosted by SUPSA), Brisbane (hosted by BrisSUP Club) and the Sunshine Coast (hosted by Sunshine Coast SUP Club) with one event a month over three months and a points system over the three events used to work out final placings for the series
What is so great about these events is that every single event across all three locations had in excess of 100 paddlers each and across all three events we had in excess of 350 participants. The reason this series was so successful was because we don't focus on prize-money or pulling in the gun paddlers, we focus on making the series inclusive, ensuring that paddlers of all levels and skills feel comfortable about competing, ensuring that the series is fun (with friendly competition) and finally ensuring that people get to share the stoke of how great this great sport of ours is with like-minded people.
So thanks to everyone to that came along and enjoyed the 2016 King and Queen of Clubs Tri-Series with us all, the series wouldn't have been a success without each and everyone of you and the efforts of the three clubs.
