whats the general consensus on the best paddle for wave SUP. my current whisky jack paddle is nearing the end of its life and they don't make them anymore so looking for a new wave paddle.
Looking at SUP paddle websites they seem to assume you already know which paddle in their range is suitable for you and provide no description. very frustrating.

I like the Ke Nalu 74 sq elite blade with a 60% carbon xtuf shaft. Good amount of shaft flex, durable and in the highly unlikely event that you do break it the components (blade, shaft and handle) are individually replaceable. The hot glue join system also makes cutting down your paddle length a simple process. I also really like the sharkskin finish.

Best bet is to demo/borrow as many as you can and see what works. Most dedicated paddles brands and big SUP companies have paddles geared towards surf. Typically look for a smaller blade and less carbon (60-80%).

The only way to really "know" is to beg/borrow and Demo as many as you can to get the "feel"... Gibo is correct in that you should consider smaller blade to avoid premature pectoral/rotator cuff issues (with muscle soreness and tears). Once you get sore in the shoulder/arm/pectorals it can take a fair while to recover from (if it is a more serious level of injury which is still very easy to do).
