I am looking at getting into some ocean racing, can anyone recommend a good board to start with. I've been supping for a couple of years but mainly with surfing sups. Probably looking at a second hand one to start with and see how i go. I'm 175cm tall and 70ish kg...thanks for any advice!!

Where in QLD are you based.. So many options, So many options 2nd Hand also.
I wouldn't go narrower than 26 for the ocean. 27/28 for most ocean conditions in my opinion is probably better. 28 wide its stable and you won't be falling in. 26 might be a bit tippy for first board and in rough conditions will find yourself in the drink.. loosing time wasting energy.. I am sure the really experienced guys don't have this issue with 26 or less wide boards though.

I have just been through this, suped for 7 years but never downwind or race style, just bought my first, a 14' 2012 Naish Glide 27 wide in carbon, as new for $1000, this board is fantastic, looks like a toothpick, but so stable, and catches a lump very easily. I am 75kg and 177 tall if that helps, hope I got a good deal on the board, feels like it, very happy.
