greetings to all!

has anyone measured speed (average/max) on the following 14' boards?

Naish Javelin
Jm Navigator
Bark Dominator
Fanatic fly race (28).

if yes, could you post along with the conditions (flat, choppy, downwind)?

thanks in advance.

Hi xlcr,

I should be able to give you accurate GPS info from my Garmin account on the Navigator and Fanatic on Tuesday when we next paddle.

I mostly ride the Fanatic 14 Flat Water and cruise at a speed of around 8.8km/hr and can sprint it to about 11.8km/h over short distances. I can average a steady 9.3-9.5km/h over a distance (10km) if racing in good conditions (calm and no current).

I'll try and get you a 1km trial on both boards for comparison, better still, you could come along and paddle both boards yourself seeing as you are in Perth.

thanks you both!

@dj very nice test. there are no gps results (or i missed them) but it is the most complete one I 've seen. great work and VERY helpful.
narrowed my choices among the two surftechs.
any suggestion among the bark and the jm?

@ScarbsSUP thanks for the invitation but unfortunately i am not in Perth right now (and for some time). But i do appreciate the help and the results you will have. I am really interested on the jm speed. I hear it is a great downwinder but i have no data for speed.

IMO.. Don't get too hung up on board speeds between these bords.. I think it's more than 90% the paddler anyway and it's impossible to get accurate GPS readings because it's impossible to paddle exactly the same with each test.. Plus throw into that changing conditions.. How you feel physically.. and I'm sure there's also philological factors that also come into it.. So until they come up with a paddling robot in tank test conditions these GPS speeds don't mean much.. Paul did have some GPS results from this test but decided not to publish them.. I think he found the wider and heavier Ace to be faster but we know this is not right.. and he also found the 12'6" board to be faster.. I think some smaller and lighter boards will accelerate faster but can also slow down faster because there is less momentum and glide so a max GPS speed doesn't mean that much.
