I'm looking for suggestions for my next board. Currently have a Naish Mana 9'5" but I feel like I need to move onto something smaller. I've gotten to a point where I think the board size is limiting my improvement.
I am 5' 9" and weigh around 60kg......in my early 30's, quite strong
My budget is up to $2k.
Suggestions please.

Trial as many boards as you can is the best way.

Next step might be a sup 9'x30 around 130 litres, but best to trial

Hi Sally.
I am presuming you surf your SUP? If so:-
I can't see why you cannot go straight down to a board around 8ft to 8ft 6inch long X 28 to 30 wide at 105 to 115 Litres volume in round to point nose SUPs. Or even less on the more square nose SUPs.

My wife can easily float on my 8ft 2inch X 32 wide at 124 Litre volume JP Wide SUP. on flatwater on her 4th time ever on a SUP.

I went straight from a 9ft 6inch 32 wide 140 Litre SUP to a Sunova 8ft 3 inch x 29 wide at 110 Litres at a body weight of around 84 kilos.
Didn't take long to get used to it. And I also found it easier to handle on the windy days too.
So by all means try before buy.

You could keep the Naish for those days predicted to be choppy.

Seajuice, yes mostly surf....haven't tried any of the other disciplines, although the down winding looks pretty interesting.
And those foils look so much fun.

How long will it take to get comfy on an 8' 2" or similar?

If you are a fit 60 kg, 30 years and defrocked shorty get that board at 70 liters which make this one 6'9,5" 25 1/4

It all depends on what you want to do and in what conditions you are going to use it.

Do you want to have more a longboard style or a short board style.

Will you be surfing big waves or small waves.

Steep waves or softer waves.

Do you want something easy to paddle and catch waves or a challenge.

Tom, I am a recent newcomer, but have progressed enough to have outgrown my current board. Regularly surfing in head high waves but will take a while to feel comfortable in bigger. Have prone surfed for 3years.

From a board that big I would be looking at moving down to approx 110-120 litres, you may move down again so plan to change again in a year or two. A good width would be 29-30.
You can go for an all-round board or a more short board performance board.
For all round have a look at smik short mac, Jimmy Lewis destroyer etc. Remember the best surfer is the one having the most fun so don't go too far and make it a struggle

Check out the STARBOARD sale, there may be a board that takes your fancy. Personally I think you could go down to an 8' with your stats, there is an 8' pro starlite for under $1000 ( 2017 model ) delivered. plenty of other boards as well.

there's a Jimmy Lewis 8'11 striker on sale at ESS Boardstore atm for $1600 (400 off). 130L, highly rated and well constructed. I just got the last 10' on sale (yay for me!). You'd want to be quick tho.

That 2016 8'0 carbon pro starboard is what I would choose if the shipped that to hawaii
