Last week I broke my laguna bay 9'0 on a massive closeout, dry reef etc etc, i was a dumb ass for even trying!!!! It was by far the best board I have ever surfed. It handled every situation from beach breaks to point breaks and everything in between. I was devastated. I jumped back on my fanatic 9'0 and even tried my old naish 8'10 but nothing was the same as my trusty laguna bay. Today I jumped on a new laguna bay 8'6. The new 8'6 has the new tuflite construction which was different to the hand made 9'0, they surfed the same, same weight, same feel. I surfed it for three hours on both lefts and rights in pretty ordinary conitions, bumpy and lumpy shoulder high. What a great board!!! It turns like a dream, paddles on well and is even stable ( I'm only 75kg) Is there a better surfing board on the market? Can someone enlighten me?
Well, I guess there are some bad boards on the market, but my feeling is that there is not really a "best" board. Most boards are good boards, and one of the pleasures of Surf/SUping is discovering their qualities. You may want to ask "what are the boards more designed for this kind of waves and this feeling I want to have and my weigth/size/fitness"...
And I would add that the best board is ... a quiver of very different boards :-)
I think you knew the answer to your question before you even asked it
The only thing better than a Laguna Bay is another Laguna Bay
Their website looks really good too, easy to navigate and relatively cheap boards for Aussie made. Google them you'll enjoy it. They should get a dealer down in Vicco!!!![]()
Their longboards have always been great boards, plus they are as you mentioned Aussie made. It's great that we have have a high quality homegrown product. The other thing I didn't mention is the shape of the board allows such a different surfing style to other boards I have in my quiver.
Hi Dave,
The Laguna's are definitely one of the better boards out there.
Depending on what sort of waves your surfing, the Naish 8'5" Hokua is also another really good option. It still is really stable for an 8'5" with 115L of volume and 28 inches wide.
If the surf is sucking up a little more and has a little bit of a wall where you are, It is definitely worth giving the new 8'5" Hokua a go. Otherwise just stick with the 8'6" Laguna Surf Tech.

I know someone who had a 8'0" custom laguna but sold it and bought an 8'0" PSH ripper after a demo on one.
I have thought about the naish but I'll wait and see what the new 2012 boards are like. I have ridden the 8'6 fanatic which seemed like a ripper of a board. And yes surf rod I am 75 kgs depending on how many meat pies I've had for dinner!
I havent ridden a psh board before even though I know heaps of mates with them. They look like a nice board though do they handle similar to the naish? ![]()
The PSH boards are good too. They have a crazy rocker through the nose!
The 2012 Naish Hokua 8'5" is exactly the same as the 2011 one just with 2012 graphics and an extra sticky deck grip that is new to Naish this year. Otherwise the shape of the board is exactly the same!

yes Dave, i have the 9'1" quad it rips, nice and thin in the rails beautiful tail rocker. See Marky Mark @ e.s.s. he has a demo![]()
I'm pretty happy with my 8'8 LSD. I have about 10kg on you and find it just stable enough at 110lt and 29something wide.
