Are Searano or Adventure boards any good? I'm after a beginner board but not sure if these are good given the cheap prices. Am I better off getting a secong hand known brand?

IMO… Yes.. 
Better off with a second hand name brand which you will be able to sell or trade when you upgrade. You will most likely get stuck with a cheap brand. A 10' Fanatic allrounder or a similar Naish so you can practice on flat water would be my recommendation .
