Hi all, keen to get on to the river with my kids on board (aged 2.5 and 4yrs) looking to buy a board that would be good for river cruising and the odd glassy surf in Margaret River, WA. Not much SUPing experience but have surfed/snowboarded most of my life. Any advice on brand/size etc to look out for would be greatly appreciated as need to get more time in the water and figure this is the most family friendly way. Thanks heaps

I paddle with my kids aged 3,5 and 6. I am 95 kgs and paddle with 2 kids on a JP fusion 10.8. It is super stable loaded up. My wife rides a Naish Mana 10 with the other child and it is great as well. We are both beginner paddlers.

Have a look at one of the bigger nsp boards, can't go wrong with one of them for value.

I've got 2 boys, 19 months and 4 years. I'm just on 94 kilos and my 4 year old is approx 21 kgs. Currently using a JPD Surf 10'6 with plenty of volume to spare. It's a tough board which practically lives in the sun and has even been sup'd by my mate who is 110 kgs. It gets stored outside and I've only ever used the cover once. I'll be keeping it forever as my family board.

I bought a life jacket for the 19 month old and he just LOVES being out on it. Keeps asking me for the paddle! I'll have to get him his own one.

It taught me to surf (pretty quickly) and is still a ball in the waves. Not saying this is the brand for you but a 10'6 board with around 170 litres would be fine (depending on your own weight).

I have an old walden 10'10" that handles me at 87kg, a 7yo at 32kg and a 6yo at 25kg easily. Mind you, it's a b$stard to turn with 50kg+ up the front....

My son really likes coming out and has been since he turned 1. Now that he is 3 and like moving around a bit more I have put a make shift grab handle on the front tie downs for him. Board is the 14 x 30 Starboard Tourer

ok narrowing the search, I'm 75kg and kids are around 15kg and 20kg. there is a naish 11'4 with carbon paddle in good cond. locally for $1500. good deal???? suitable??? or better off with one of the new package deals with paddle and board bag included for under $1000??? thanks so much to you all for taking the time to comment, it's really helpful and appreciated as funds are tight and we want to invest in the right goods:-) have also seen the jpd 10'6. new, with paddle and bags for board and paddle included' delivered for $1595.

ball park figure to barter with on the Naish 11'4 without being cheeky:-) as it's a friend of a friend, but he does like to push the bar at the higher end of the scale when it comes to $$$$ but still need to see him around town. Board is a few years old and has been kept in the carport and barely ridden he claims he paid $2200??? cheers for your time

We paid $1799 for a brand new Naish Alana and quickblade paddle today (the Alana is the Nalu with a ladies paint job) so definitely $1500 seems over the top (unless it is a 2014 and hardly used). A friend is selling a 2013 Nalu in very good condition for $1000-$1100 and a second hand carbon paddle shouldn't be more than $250, depending of course
on brand, model, condition, etc

thanks so much, we have just passed on the local one as it was a 2009 and felt the price was a bit steep. will look into some more 2nd handers though the price you got your new kit for is definitely worth a look in. thanks again

Agree with Ricey. I got my Nalu for $1100 when it was about two years old. And that was the GT model not the GS.

After that you get the best paddle you can afford
