OK guys and gals I am a SUP newbie and are looking at purchasing a SUP but with a limited budget :-( My research is confusing me on size and width of a board. I have ridden a shortboard consistently for 30 years and and will aways hope do so where the waves are good however am looking at a SUP for both flat water and small waves on the Gold Coast. I am 6' and between 90-95kgs.
Would something around 11' and 30" wide be the go? or shorter/longer
How do the SUPATX's rate? A board shop assistant told me the quality is average?

Around 11' and 30" is fine. I wouldnt go any smaller than 10'
SUPatx look fine to me. They are pretty good value for the price. I havnt ridden one but if they are even a semi decent board then you'd have to consider it

The 11' NSP is a cheaper option.. Pop in and see the guys at 'Roar Industries' and see what they think.. and they might have something you can demo.

hey dazza, have a look in the classies on here, there's a guy in brissy with a southpoint 11'6 with a paddle for $750, it's right up your alley i reckon.
disclaimer: i am in no way affiliated with the guy selling the board/paddle, just thought it was a bit of a bargain for a learner board

Go for the Starboard 10'5" Drive. The best allaround board.
It glides really well, and allows you to surf decently longboard style on small waves. I used it for surfing from knee high to head high and to race at local SUP races at the 10' division.

Don't rule out the Fanatic 11ft hrs, they are great value sup and tuff as. Stick to something around 11ft to 12ft for what you want to do & don't go super wide you won't like it for flat water paddling.
