Thumbs Up

I had a SUP last night which was magnificent.
In the night time I started dreaming and thought I'd ask if you'll could point me toward a suitable board?
I really liked a friends yellow Naish Hokua board, 8'5", 2011? I used for a few days in Esperance in 2012. It was wobbly for me as I'd only used huge boards infrequently prior. However, I was blown away how surfable that massive thing was on a pussy little wave.

I'm 70-72kg, 5'11", thin & 42 yr old, pretty fit and have heaps of boardriding and surf exp. I'd recon I'd only use this new board in small surf as I enjoy conventional surfing. I can practice in the harbour if this board is a bit short or small. It would be cool to be able to pop the girls (3&5 yo) on the front too and paddle them around with out freaking them out by wobbling too much. I'm looking for one size fits all and for it to be a keeper. I can use it in flat water for cruising on flat days but I will need to meet the challenge of getting it to flow in the surf. I've always struggled to see how that (SUPing) can be rewarding, but it was so beautiful here in the heat wave late last night that i't's tipped me in. Definitely, I'm looking for a board with very nice lines (no pigs) which beautiful to use. - You know like a round/pin tail.

What I'd like to know:

1. Given where Im at, how many Ltrs do I need? the hokua is 115ltrs

2. Dimensions.??

3. Plane shape. Does a SB 9'1" pro ride anything like a Hokua? Can you walk the 9'1" pro?

4. Has there been a major improvement in board design such that there are now much better boards than the 2011 Hokua now, ie 2013 models? I was blown away how surfable that massive thing was on a pussy little wave in Jan 2012.

5. Is a Hokua or starboard 9'1" pro a board that you use for cruising too?

6. What do you think of a starboard pro 2011 9'1" x 29" Pro ~130L?

7. Any other models to consider? - psh ripper 9'3"?

Thanks for your consideration, time and advice.

Happy paddling

Pete

Zoning in on a Quattro 9'6" x 31.5" 165Ltr or a Starboard Drive 10'5" x 30" 160L

It's a family thing too.

The quatro will be more fun in the surf yet still be paddlable with the kids on. I recon I'd leave the SUP alone once its big enough to ride a 9' mal or short board.

Happy to hear some thoughts. I'm nowhere near a shop to drop in and chat to.
