Holy smokes they've really increased their range haven't they. With that steering system it looks like you could fit two tiller arms and switch foot while still being able to steer which (in my v. limited exp.) looks interesting!

Any update on this? Has anyone ridden the new SIC FX14 yet?

It is such a shame that we don't have an established SIC retailer here in the UK. So you can't demo any SIC board. Which is a bit of an obstacle to purchase given how expensive they are.

I'm lucky to have the Aussie distibuter for SIC here in Melbourne.. I was chatting to him just the other day.. I'll suss it out.. get some info.. and try and do some demo's.

Come to Jersey for the Battle of the Rock 19/20 this month, we are hoping to have a 12'6 and 14' X pro that you can try (only 2015 though but no changes) The FX wont be available to us until the new year by the look of it. You could also try the Bark D2 and 14' Downwinder

How can it possibly be that there are more demo opportunities for boards that interest me in a tiny place like Jersey (population 100k) than in mainland UK, which has a population approx 2.5 times that of Australia?

I went to the National Watersports Festival here in the UK this weekend, where many of the brands were showing their wares. It was wall to wall barge-like inflatables. Kinda depressing, even for someone who owns two iSUPs. A few new brands selling cheap Chinese SUS boards too.

They obviously don't like you Area 10.

You could be right, Wood Duck ;)

Of course, it could also be that many of the most interesting designs are not being made by the windsurf brands (for whom SUP always plays second fiddle to windsurfing, and kitesurfing), but by the specialist brands like SIC. However the windsurfing brands have a distribution stranglehold in some markets, so brands like SIC can find it very hard to establish distributors/retailers.

Meant to test the FX at a race over the weekend, but wind around 40 knots and massive waves made choose the trusted

Gorgeous looking board. SIC manage to make the boards look worth what they cost, unlike some (mainly windsurfing) brands.

Is he videoing the rails in the vid? I'd like to see that footage.

It's a shame they don't make a wider version, which might then be the ideal "everyman" board for someone who paddles in a variety of conditions. 25" wide is going to be a struggle for most non-sponsored people in ocean wind and chop, especially if the deck isn't lowered a bit.

That's a great video. So good in fact that I almost wish I hadn't seen it, because I can almost hear my bank balance groaning.

Why were you using the 12 rather than the 14 in those conditions?

Area 10 it’s not me in the video. Just found it today. Must be an awesome all-round board, it handles very good these conditions.

Shame, I was just about to compliment you on your skills.

And then ask you for details of how it handles. A skilled rider and slick editing can make anything look good. Although in this case I wouldn't take much convincing.

I think we were discussing this on another thread also Area 10. Inflatables are a huge part of the UK - European market. Funnily enough some of the figures I read about the inflatable market in NZ are also huge.


SIC have been reasonably small here in Oz until they went with a windsurf distributor. This coincided with their OS changes. The result, SIC is seeing a huge resurgence in OZ with some great boards and a huge increase in the numbers of boards I'm seeing on the water.


People criticize the windsurf brands, but here in OZ they seem to be doing most of the promotion for the sport. I'd be happy to support a local brand, however, none of them apart form DC are particularly active in doing anything other than selling their brand.

Hassle the SIC International guys. They must know someone who could distribute in the UK....or is that a business opportunity to pursue yourself.

Methinks that this is because a lot of recreational boaties have got inflatables as toys and auxiliary tenders. Inflatables much easier to manage / do less damage.
