Would this work with sup
Yeah the Rip Curl surf watch would work fine on a SUP for surfing if you just want a specialist watch for that sport. I use the Sunnto Ambit 2 watch with a heart rate monitor which is better as it is designed for other sports too and ideal for flat water SUP training. The Sunnto website portal offers third party apps to use which include Wave Count and Speeds and my favorite Beers Burnt Off! It's great to know after a hard SUP surf how many beers you are entitled to...

The unique feature of the Rip Curl watch is that it actually automatically identifies the waves you surf and separates details of the waves (number, distance, speed, mapping) from times not actually surfing and just paddling around (as well as the mapping, sharing etc etc features of the app). No other watch or GPS device does this (patent pending). It does not do some of the more sport based things like HR etc but some distance paddlers are using them to determine how much of their workout is paddling and how much is wave assisted... but its real use and focus is in the surf. I work for Rip Curl by the way!!!

That wave count feature could be cool. The Sunnto Ambit has a Wave Count app but it is useless as it can't figure out what a wave is versus just moving around on a SUP. How does the Rip Curl watch determine a wave if you are SUP surfing and paddling around and moving more than prone surfers?
I race SUPs, surf SUPs, windsurf, snowboard and go running…so wanted a GPS watch to cover all sports and incorporate all the heart rate functionality and data.

Im heading over seas in two weeks. I have my figures crossed and am first on the list locally![]()
I want it because I'm told with the gps, you just turn it on and it will recognise tides ect were you are. Also it has a best tides and wind conditions for local spots? Can you confirm this for me![]()
Your a bloody health nut ![]()
Er…I brew my own beer so it is much more a case of trying to keep things in balance. That is why I like the Beers Burnt Off app using the Sunnto heart rate monitor…keeps things in perspective eh ![]()

Just a quick question.
I am a little unsure how it can tell the difference between what a wave is and what a wave is not.
I have signed up to the rip curl website to look at getting one. But a little bit more of a over view on how it all works through the rip curl website would be amazing. But i hope it is not like my other rip curl tide watch that sits in my cupboard collecting dust after broken ban after broken band that cost me $399.00.
