Hi folks I'm new to this game. Looking at getting a board to start. I don't really want to flat water paddle, just catch some waves. I realise I will need to start on a longer board then trade for smaller if I want to get the thing moving in the waves. I am 85kg and have pretty good balance and have surfed for a while. My question is I have the option to buy a "outer Reef 12" board" link...http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=316865786. But I can't find any reviews on this board or any Outer Reef board. Anyone know anything about them, especially this one. Just really want to know if it would be suitable for wave surfing. Not monsters, just overhead max and a pretty gentle wave. Anything appreciated. Cheers .
Hi, thanks for your help but I'm in NZ. Dunno whats up with the link. Try going to trademe then entering listing number in the search, that should work. Is a 12 footer ok for the waves or too big?? Cheers all.
Looks very big, at 85kg you want something about 10 to 10 6 by close to 30 inches wide. Weight is an issue if it is way over 10kg it will not be fun.
Some of the cheap pop outs coming out are really heavy and that's from someone who does not mind a solid board.
Happy hunting but I would stay away from that board if you want to ride waves.
Just seen that board on Tradeys I haven't heard of the make, the pics aren't that flattering, as Hilly says its a big board and perhaps go for a 10-10 1/2 ft for a 'surfier' board, the seller can't spell.., its way cheap and I always say 'buy cheap-buy twice'.
Thanks guys, bit of a pattern in advice developing here. Any reinforcing or alternative views appreciated. I am in the Naki. Will start looking for a lighter and wider 10-11" board as I intend to use it 100% on in the surf. Anyone have any experience with the red air inflatables?? www.redpaddleboards.co.nz. Roll on summer...
